Leather Seat Wear

Subaru BRZ with 2200 miles/3600km. I noticed the driver seat, left portion where the left thigh area rests is drying up and slight crack line. I tried applying leather conditioner, but the crack is still there, but not as dry.

Any way to completely fix this? Apply more leather conditioner and work in into the leather? I wish the entire seat is alcantara and not part leather. Leather is so hard to maintain.

Same thing happened in my S2000, I think it's mostly from getting in and out of the car.

I'm gonna try to get in and out of the car without touching the left portion of the seat. Very annoying with the wear since the car is still practically brand new.

Agreed! I can do whatever to cloth and still look brand new as long as it's maintained. Damn leather!!

When I was cleaning mine the other day I noticed a crease line in the left upper bolster and another in the lower left bolster. I know this is because I have been pretty rough getting in and out of the car. I don't really have a choice about how rough I am though, the car is so low I kinda fall in and out of it. It doesn't look all that bad. I cleaned it up and now I am making a point to not crush them when getting in. Oh well, its just a car....

Ditto. Plus:

1. Leather is hotter in summer.
2. Leather is colder in the winter.
3. Cloth is easy to clean.
4. This particular BRZ cloth weave and material will look good forever.
5. Remember, leather is used to hold a cow together, not car seats.

I asked the same thing a few momnths ago...bit of info has helped me out a lot and I haven't seen any wear since.

Though I may pony up some cash and get some cloth seat replacements.

That single piece was made out of the rubber-ish material instead of hard plastic because you're supposed to push against it with your left hand to hoist yourself out of the car. Unless you have high-mileage or are obviously overweight (I've heard of some denials for weight issues) then I don't think it can be considered a normal "wear" item. I would check into a warranty replacement.

Same thing here, my solution was to push the seat back a little bit so my fat butt wont scrape the left bolster anymore

The quality of leather in the BRZ is low and the sad truth is Alcantara doesn't wear well over time. I've had two cars with Alcantara and neither lasted long without looking worn, and I take excellent care of my stuff. I skipped the Limited purely because I didn't want the seats or the spoiler. The rest of the features were gimmicks.

But, I digress.

The quality of cloth in the BRZ Premium is outstanding. The only issue I expect is a potential for slight fading over time for those who can't garage their cars during the day. Otherwise I'd be willing to wager the cloth seats lasting just as long for those who don't carelessly rub against the bolsters during ingress/egress.

Not in my experience. Had it in two cars for the last 14 years and both looked worn after DD'ing. The bolsters on one pair of seats (bucket seats, mind you) were pilled and fuzzy. Just because you've had good luck with it doesn't make my experience any less true.

Leather will wear, but the Leather/Alcantara seats always still look nicer than the standard cloth seats. The leather on the seats are not of low quality, it is decent overall, and quite good if considering the price level of the car.

And the statement about Alcantara wearing poorly is untrue. One of the main benefits to Alcantara is that it is wear and stain resistant. Another benefit is that is very easy to clean. I have had Alcantara on two other cars and they still look fresh and nice.

I don't mind the cloth seats, they're quite good and supportive. However, the leather/alcantara seats take it up a notch and are nicer.

i am just messing with ya but everyone has their own reason for pick premium vs Limited. when i went to dealer to choose between two trim didnt really matter as long as car was available but i ended up pre-order premium because i couldnt justfiy myself spending $2000 more for heated seats, wings, auto/dual climate control, start engine button and etc. (unless limited version had more performance parts installed)
since i had leather on previous cars and have my other daily cars have leather now, only benefit i can have is i can get rid of stain if it's dirty but if i spill something on cloth seats, it's difficult to clean.

OP's describing section of leather is common area of torn apart. I saw on s2k, miata, rsx and etc. in order to prevent, avoid to scrub/touch when get in and out?
