True CAI, custom the only way?

I have a FA20CLUB CAI right now. I love it there is no doubt about it.

BUT, if you compare the piping diameter of the FA20 intake, it is a bit smaller than the stock tube.

I was wondering if there will be some gains with a 2,75+'' intake. The air would be taken were the windshield bottle is right now (I wanted to delete it since I never used it). I would also empty the side black trim from the bumper so there is a good direct fresh air.

What do you think about it?

So far, there aren't many differences in the intakes especially when a tune comes into play. Take your pick, the FA20club one is just fine. It literally comes down to, do you want to pull the bumper every time to service the filter? Do you want a foam or cotton based filter? The differences are so slight, I wouldn't sweat it. This is one of the few cars I've ever seen a cold air intake come stock... just with a crappy filter.

I might have to refer you to perrins blog on CAI they cover a lot about cold air intakes. The stock routing on the intake is actually ok.

Once you tune the car its all within the margin of error. Maybe down the road with cams and such the gaps will grow.

Id just keep the setup you have now, its a good setup and looks and sounds awesome.

I miss my LT1's K&N cold air intake... pull the fender wheel plastic back, instant filter access! Now it's pop 14 plastic clips, and unscrew two silver bolts and 5 bolts on top. What the hell was I thinking!
