Help covering front bumper license plate holes
So i bought a 500 mi. brz and the dealer i bought it from had drilled holes for the license plate in the front bumper for the previous owner. It was from nebraska. Now swapping the bumpers seems to be out of the question in my case. The car will be here monday but below is a picture that the dealer sent me of the holes. I was wondering what could be used to cover them up? i was thinking some matte black vinyl but the heat would force the vinyl to show the holes and plugs might just look ugly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know exactly how the mustache on the BRZ works, but is it possible to just get that part replaced? If not, maybe you can just fill the holes with some sort of black plastic filler and blend it in and leave it at that if it comes out nicely, if not, then still fill the holes and then get a vinyl wrap. There won't be any holes under it for the vinyl to shrink into.

I would suggest get the full bumper replaced nothing will really help cover those holes.

I had holes in my bumper before I picked up my car and I hated it....I asked for the fill plugs to be put in...I think they grabbed them from another BRZ they had in stock. I don't understand something though...my BRZ has the two tag holes on the bumper but I've also seen BRZs with nothing at all. It seemed like the holes on my car came like that and dealer didn't do anything. The non-holed BRZs I've seen have nothing at all and everything looks smooth without any indication or markings as to where the holes should be drilled.

s-craft makes BRZ moustache covers in carbon fiber and FRP, but they're not cheap and shipping's going to be expensive. wish there was a domestic manufacturer for something like this.

Good opportunity for someone to try to cut that part out and find a way to hide the bumper beam.

My '08 Civic SI had a single hole drilled in the painted portion as part of the plate mount. I went to Home Depot and found a plastic ribbed plug...as you pushed it in, the ribs expand back out and its extremely difficult to pull back out.
I lightly sanded and rattle canned it. $.48 and some white Krylon I already had on hand solved it for me. YMMV. |

It's going to be very difficult to make anything fill the holes and look like it's part of the bumper. The body shop guy I spoke with said he could try to fill it and paint it to somewhat match the pattern on the mustache, but it wouldn't look 100% factory and he would really recommend replacing the bumper. Replacement of the bumper would have cost $800.
I've been using these small rubber plugs I picked up at Home Depot (I think?) for <$3.

Dealerships who drill bumpers suck. Who in the world ever thought that was an acceptable solution for mounting a front plate?

Yeah, I do understand why.. it's cheaper. But if it makes sense to require a plate on the back it makes just as much sense to require one on the front.

Mine has the four holes too. I heard Subaru told dealerships to stop installing the brackets prior to delivery.
