A question for those running FI, base kits
1. no oil cooler because I don't need it 2. no oil cooler but I'll have one installed 3. I have one a. I bought a kit, what brand b. Home brew, what brands were used 4. How would you rate/comment on your oil cooler? a. build quality b. ease of install and modifications needed c. value for money Last edited by andrewFT86; 07-22-2013 at 11:39 PM. Reason: limited poll to stage one or base kits |

3. I have one
a. I bought a kit, Full Blown 4. How would you rate/comment on your oil cooler? a. build quality - Excellent. Possible extra hose depending on routing under driver side headlight based on BRZ or FR-S model b. ease of install and modifications needed - Came with instructions and install is fairly simple as long as you know how to remove the bumper. Possible extra hose depending on routing under driver side headlight based on BRZ or FR-S model c. value for money - Slightly lower price than some of the other kits out there.

Still deciding. Gonna run my oil temps through Torque after running the car kinda hard and see what they're at. If it approaches 240+ on a moderate run then I'll definitely get one.

I got the Kite Oil cooler kit. It runs lower temps with the Turbo kit than the BRZ did stock. No brainer IMHO.

You should really include something about the style of driving and the location of the people voting.

I have a 40 minute commute every day to work and back. Max temps I've seen on this drive were 226F. Granted it was a pretty relaxed drive, that seems pretty safe for now. No oil cooler and running the SBD kit (with fully wrapped headers and downpipe). I think if I were to track it I would need the oil cooler, but realistically I could probably just run slightly thicker oil (0W-30). I've been strongly considering the Forester OEM solution.

Ask away I love people that go out of their way to do research. ~500 miles on the turbo, currently running 5W-20 Penzoil Platinum Pure Plus. Not my endgame choice of oil but I figured I'll change it after about 1.5k to get any particulates out of the new oil lines. Not too much hotter than where I live here in sunny south Florida, but the brutal summer hasnt even started.

FMB kit, No oil cooler. FBM upgraded radiator and dual slim fans.
67-70 degrees sunny outside and the max I see is around 236*F when I beat on it on my 40min ride home from work. Which is 20min traffic, floor it on an on-ramp onto a 75mph highway and then last 6 min are slow neighborhood roads. While cruising on the highway it seems to hold steady around 220*. Will for sure be getting an oil cooler come summer. Had a perrin oil cooler and sold it to add to the turbo funds campaign when they first released. This time around I'll get the FBM oil cooler... simply due to location and compatibility with my kit. Or may go with DIY forester route... pending how well it works on a few local guy's builds. The only poor thing about the side mounted oil cooler's I've heard is that they heat soak quickly. I'm sure my new front end will fix that with a fresh air draw (ARP brake duct) right to the core.

I'm running a treadstone performance kit along with a skunk2 alpha radiator with liquid cooler built into the end tank, currently getting some custom lines fab to run it as an oil cooler as well
.I will report back once up and running |
