Thumbs up Offical FD Mazda RX7 Thread

Great review of the RX-7, i like how Carlos makes a remark about how similar the RX-7 is to the Toyobarus. I wish Mazda would remake this masterpiece as the RX-8 felt to me like mazda went back in time performance wise.

"On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago convinces Mazda to hand him the
keys to the only left-hand drive RX-7 Spirit R in the world. After a quick look underneath the car, Carlos hits the winding road to explore the involving driving experience and rotary engine that made the Mazda RX-7 so unique, as well as its connection to the new generation of lightweight, rear-wheel drive coupes like the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S."

how japan had that whole 276hp phase, i think that something like that would be interesting to see how other countries/manufacturers would deal with that. what would Ford, and Chevy, and even Porsche do?

also: such a smexy car

I really liked this video. I wish it were a tad longer and that he had a bit more to say about the car, but i really enjoyed seeing a new video about the old RX-7.

I really appreciate the comment about how the 276hp years in Japan made them think outside the hp box. Thanks for the vid!

Wow, I didn't really realize the effects of the Japanese horsepower limit until now... It's such an interesting point that he makes, and makes me appreciate the earlier Japanese sports cars even more now!

I can't imagine the things that could be produced with a rule like that in this day and age. We would have exponentially more Zx6s and Lotuses. More cars as rewarding as the Spirit R...

I agree. Sadly Rotary turbos are about to be as rare as white flies with the new fuel economy regulations.

Some interestingly coincidental specs... both this and the twins weigh around 2800 lbs., come with 17" wheels w/meatier tires by today's standards, have low-mounted engines with accompanying fender bulges on hood, and have a flat spot in the middle of the powerband!!

That Rx-7 and the Rx-8 were used as models for the FR-S and BRZ as a basis for the concept.
