Insurance renewal time

So I've owned my FRS since May of last year. Had two comprehensive "curse" claims. One for a retread from a semi and one from a suicidal cat that I hit @ 70+ on the interstate. No issues getting either covered.

Then it comes......that's right......my insurance went....no where. Same exact cost as last year. So the car hasn't moved up due to all the crashes we see posted up here. I was worried, not about my claims, but about the car itself moving up a tier or two in risk assessment.

Well I just got the car, and compared to my previous car which was a 2007 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring Edition *$38000 purchased brand new, my insurance actually went up by $700 for the year. :-(

I suspect this car was insured at an inflated value for more than a few reasons (two door, sports car, cheap to buy)

It's not all that surprising that the insurance cost has remained constant or even dropped. Insurance companies are pretty good with their numbers and statistics.

I have been worrying about this since i bought the car. If you don't mind me asking what insurance do you have?

Insurance rates aren't determined solely by the type of car you have and rate comparisons are really only applicable to people living in the same relative area. Even then, insurance rates could vary between 2 cities that are right next to eachother.

This.

There are so many factors that can raise or drop insurance rates that aren't necessarily influenced by the car itself, or what other drivers have done.

I would expect that, in a few years, insurance rates could be a little more influenced by accidents....but not that much.

The biggest factors are your record, your age, and your demographic.

100 is average. Your car insurance will go up by individual coverages ie comp, collision, theft....if this number goes to high. 2011 is the most recent year I could find for this "worst" list from IIHS. Enjoy your two years of freedom from this number. I suspect next year we'll see the FRS/BRZ go up in base cost. Add in area, age, record and the rest after that number is arrived at.
