I still don't get it. (you know you're getting old when new technology is confusing and sounds like magic).
So AM/FM setting, I get that. There's an antenna picking up radio waves. XM radio has an antenna as well, and you pay a monthly service fee to get access to a couple hundred stations. CD - you put a disc in. Phone - you connect your smartphone and can access songs stored on it. (and I guess make phone calls, still using your phone as the basic unit but using the interface and speakers/mic in the car). So, what does aha do? Do you need your phone to access a 3G/4G network to stream content, and then hook up to your radio? Or does the radio now have built in 3G capabilities that you'll need to go to Verizon and add your car as a separate account? |

Just want the article said your smartphone is used as the Internet connection.
The scion bespoke system does the same thing. Pioneer zypr is cloud based too just like aha. You can even sign up for free and be a zypr developer and create apps for it. |

Being constructive: Here is compilation on this head unit, as I'm going to get rid of it as soon as I get the car. IMO, such car should have flush pannel, no cheap SD Cards slots into my face.
I attach two screenshots, one (small) from BRZ life picture from yesterday's Hermosa Beach thread. Big one - from Impreza Sport Limited official picture. Here is the thread: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-i-c-e...ews-specs.html Its a Pioneer head unit, built for Subaru, seems identical in both cars. Aha - its a replacement for both, sat radio and Pandora integration offered by competitors in US: http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/a...ands-on-video/ You can review it, but with data caps forced by data providers it becomes useless. To be honest this years CES was the dullest event in its history. If not for BRZ demo, manufactures could have sent us brochures with (sort of) updated specs and call it a day. Some big players simply ignored it this year: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/tech...tay-ahead.html |

This is just another data intensive application that makes me appreciate my unlimited data plan that much more. Not sure if I'll use it, but I said the same thing about Pod Casts at one point and now I listen to those more than anything else.

I downloaded the Aha app last night and have been using it a bit. It's pretty cool, but I don't know if it will replace regular radio for me. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my Slacker stations in it though, and apparently they are going to add Mog at some point too, so I think then it will become a lot more useful. Right now it seems like it is mainly useful for podcasts and traffic.

Resistive screens are very uncommon nowadays. Capacitive is hugely better and not really much more expensive. We should be set with a good capacitive screen.

There is a down side to capacitive screens. On a cold winter day when I first get in the car I'll have to take my golves off to work the radio. I may have to invest in a pair of those smartphone combatable gloves. |

Oriental Life - why would you ditch the SD slot? 32GB SD cards can be had for less than $30. I would like to be able to put my entire music library on a SD card, and not have to worry about it on my phone.
