Rear end clunk after H&R Super Sport Spring Install

2013 BRZ Limited - I ordered H&R Super Sport Springs, and installed them. I now have a horrible rear end clunk. Car only has 520miles on it. No noises prior to install.

No other suspension modifications.

I would double check all your nuts/bolts to make sure they are properly torqued down. I would also check the nut holding the top hat onto the shock.

Installed, and all checked, twice, by an EXTREMELY reputable performance shop.

They just put bionic ears on everything, and the noise sees to be coming from the rear shocks themselves...

Could be the springs moving around trying to settle. that or maybe that rubber springs cover could have fallen off or didn't cover properly.

That shouldnt have to happen... if the shop cant fix it, i would take it for a second opinion and another shop. If they are a reputable shop and an error is found, hopefully they will rectify and pay for the evaluation as well.

I watched the bionic ear live, its definitely coming from ONLY the passenger side rear shock, from the shock itself... not spring, not top mount,not lower mounting ...

Ugh.

I have a very good relationship with this shop, they Super Charged and did all the suspension work on my E46 M3 and built my 500whp VR6 Turbo from the ground up ... they really only work on Audi/VW/BMW, but I figured Springs on a brand new car wouldn't be a problem...

if the shock was originally defective, warranty may be out of the question since the aftermarket springs were installed already... sorry to say...


You could always take this time to get koni shocks or something? or go full coilover and return/sell the springs? :/

Why can't you put the OEM springs back on and go to a dealer and get some new ones eh?

If it was defective it would've been making noise before the install. If its loud inside the car it shouldn't take any "bionic" ears to pinpoint it either. If its coming from the left side then pull apart that corner and start from scratch making sure that every single part goes together smoothly and that nothing is binding. I have read other threads about people getting similar noises after swapping coils only to later find they did something wrong along the way.

Good luck fixing it and let us know what the end result is.

Noise is definitely coming from the shock itself. Everything was completely disassembled, carefully reassembled, and rechecked. No change.

Ordered Koni's for tomorrow... I always enjoy a forced upgrade, its easier to tell the wife, "Honey, I had to, there wasn't a choice!"

They sold me the Koni's at their cost, and are not charging to reinstall them, so I cant be too upset. Honestly the amount of time they wasted on this relative to the cost of install and the springs initially is almost a bigger bummer for them than it is for me ... almost.
