Neither, I'd get a Perrin, AEM, or AFE before those choices.

agreed, only if you plan on a tune otherwise stick w/ stock or drop in. I have the AEM and its nice 5000 rpm-redline but below that its below stock.

You should read the D sport issue from about 2 months ago that compares almost every intake available. The results were crazy low for many of them. Seems like subaru did a good job designing the stock airbox because you can get them same results with a drop in air filter

...btw if i remember right the TRD was one of the weaker intake systems...it looks nice though

According to the guys at the Toyota Motorsports garage at Toyota HQ in Torrance, the combo of US TRD intake and Exhaust is good for 10 hp. They got 12 hp on the dyno, but that was also with cat deleted (on the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pro/celebrity race cars).

I've heard that several members had issues with their Injen intake, so I would not get that one.

TRD seems to make the car feel more lively, but its expensive.

The AFE Takeda claims that with just their intake. 9-10 HP that is.

I have the TRD Intake installed, and have no experience with any of the other brands on the FR-S.

My first impression is it looks very professional, clean, as if the car were designed with it and then had it taken out. I have it installed in combination with the TRD Catback Exhaust, providing noticeably better sound, feel and performance. I do see a slightly faster pickup in speed (a la small bump in HP/TQ).

That being said, I purchased this component for piece of mind. I knew I wanted an intake/exhaust combo, and the fact that the two were designed to work together is something I value. Being able to keep my existing warranty was also a big factor.

I am positive the aftermarket offers different options (some, better) for performance, but I could not be happier with the TRD CAI/Exhaust.

It is a little pricey, but it is warrantied (if dealer installed), has no impact on your warranty, and is CARB approved (for those of us in CA), which makes it worth the price for me.

The added bonus is that it is an OEM sound tube delete.

I love my TRD - the car idles smoother, feels more responsive and sounds better too. 50 state CARB legal, designed to work with the factory tune and no problems with the factory warranty.

But this is just my opinion, I'm sure there are many others.

Edit - Used Injen for sale on here...

OEM Looks to boot!

I won't argue that TRD upgrades are often overpriced, but they function well and you won't find many complaints about the CAI or Catback on this forum.

TRD one is a no issue gain. Pricey yes, work good?... Yes. Many of claims from all are not accurate Injen especially. Trust your ears and butt dyno.
