I don't see the point. It's not exactly rough. Maybe you could try and get some sort of taper to it, but you're still going to have the factory throttle plate in there as a bottle neck. Past that, it's already a 3" throttle body, which isn't exactly small for a NA 2.0L engine.

The other thing is that I don't have a degree in fluid dynamics, so unless you do (or a flow bench to prove out what you did), you don't really know that what you're doing is helping ( I understand ports on a head vs intake manifold didn't match up, and/or it was a rough cast surface).

In the end you probably won't hurt anything, but I wouldn't expect anything either.

On a side note, Cusco offers an overbored one, and I think there are more options out there as well.

I was just wondering if anybody has done it yet or it would even make a difference. I did it to my truck and it made a big deference in throttle response. But if it isn't going to make a difference am not gonna bother with it. I really just wanted to see if ppl have done it on this car yet.

im more concerned what the intake ports look like. im sure gasket matching them would net something.

I've had some bad experiences with porting throttlebodies on OBDII engines.
Depending on the porting job, you may get DTC codes due to discrepancies between throttle position and actual airflow measured by the MAF.

I was chasing several DTC codes in a previous car that turned out to be due to a ported OEM throttle body. Was confirmed not to be a sensor/electronics issue, just a difference in airflow that the ECU said "nope" to and threw several DTC codes.

The throttle response was better with the ported throttle body, but after switching to the OEM unit I got used to it after several drives and it actually felt better and less "twitchy"

If you plan on really building the engine then go for it, but if its an NA street car(intake/exhaust) its not worth it. I put a larger bore TB on my Ford Probe GT back in high school and it made absolutely zero difference on the butt dyno...that was $400 well spent

i want to see this happen. i cant believe that no one has done this yet!

i did it on my 1998 4.0 sohc v6 explorer sport.
IT IS NIGHT AND DAY WHEN YOU SWAP THE STOCK TB FOR THE P&P TB... (on the 4.0 sohc v6) even tho its a totally different engine.
i might get another stock brz tb to have p&p. i will try to find a used one maybe from a totaled one. if i can find one.

this car has no balls. we need to start modding

does anyone know how much a new throttle body is?

The gain are going to depend on how big of a restriction the OEM throttle body is. On that Probe GT it probably wan't a restriction at all but on 4.0 V6 it probably was.

As DJcarbine mentioned, the ecu might get pissy, especially given the drive by wire system. Then again, it might be perfectly happy.

However, given the way the drive by wire works (torque request vs calculated torque) you would probably only notice any gains at WOT. No that that is a bad thing.

I also have a 4.0 SOHC V6 (supercharged), but it's in an '07 Mustang. Reading your post got me thinking about these guys... http://www.zabteck.com/moretb.htm They specialize in the 4.0, but can do any throttle body you care to send them. I have seen a lot of people use them for TB mods, and heard nothing but praise for their work. If anyone is interested, contact Todd Z. Good people.

The price of the Cusco TB is crazy.
For less than 1/5 the cost of that, a person could have their stock TB (or a core from a wrecked car, etc) ported/bored, polished, 1/2 shafted, and knife edged. I'm surprised I haven't seen more discussion on this especially in the F.I. threads.

There's absolutely no need for it. The TB on this car is huge already. Very, very low hp/$ mod.

If you get this done, don't forget to pick up one of these:

I'd say it was almost mandatory....
