DIY BBK Poor Man Big Brake Kit Solutions!!

Ok we all cant just order the parts we want most of us are average joe's working class. This thread is to help collect info on all other options to have a BBK on ur 86/FRS/BRZ without dropping $5k

Ill start with what I know and seen done.

-2008 STI Bembos are a direct bolt on solution, find a pair in a scrap yard and thats it. The STI disk will work in-conjunction all thats needed is to re-drill to 5x100 so the disk fits the hub.

-Sins 08+ STI Brembos arnt all that comon...... Find other brembos that come stock on other cars like Porsche for example Or the AMG cylinders are great aswell. A prorscha scrap yard will sell you used calipars at a very decent price, I found a pair of 4 piston brembos off a 911 for $200. All you need is to make a bracket similar to the one provided in all the kits on the market. Any machine shop can do this for you. Going this rout you must find a disk that will work for you. Knowing the STI disk works with small mod Im thinking just get a new pair of STI disks off ebay or something.

Thats as much as I know. Does anyone else know of any other options out there?
Does anyone know what other disks may fit our 86/frs hubs?

and for the rear the stock disk seems big enough all Id do is fit the STI 2 piston brembos and rock'nroll or you could prob fit the 4 piston brembos on the stock disk. In any case the car is very light in the rear so its not really nessasry for BBK in rear. I think the STI brembos bolt right up aswell.

If anyone knows anything Id love to here your 2cents. and maybe all of our cents together can get us an affordable BBK

Stock FRS/BRZ front Brakes is the same as a 08 plus Subaru WRX (Calipers, Discs, MC/Booster).. the discs can be swapped with 02-07 WRX discs that are 2.8lbs lighter than stock per side over the stock Twins discs, they are the same size rotors from 02-13.. just that the 08 plus have heavier Rotors... so pretty much any 08 WRX brake system will bolt up.. With some kits you will need to ensure they have 08 plus mounting hardware.. as some of the bracket bolts are different...

This is good to know abt the disk size and weight, and yes if you were to buy a ready kit any 08+ WRX STI kit will fit.

Some BBK options are:
-CX Racing - Would advise against as lack in quality but very low cost
-K Sport- Looks like decent/good Quality along with decent price
-D2- Same as K Sport Quality and price
-Willwood
-Stoptech
-Brembo

So this would mean that Legacy GT brakes should be a direct bolt on as well? I have these on my 10 WRX Hatch and it was a direct bolt on ... far superior braking but a hell of a lot heavier!

Cheers,
