Angeles Crest Highway Cruise! Saturday 5/18!

Fellow 86ers,

This is an open invitation to a cruise through one of California's beautiful highways! Angeles Crest Hwy closes every winter, but it's OPEN now and it's time to get some 86 rubber down on it!

This is VERY short notice, so I don't expect a big group, but let's get a little 86 representation out there on the highway this Saturday. Bring your friend or significant other along for the ride!

The plan:
Meet on the west end (La Canada) in the morning, cruise east with a few stops, including a photo-op or two and Mt. Wilson, grab lunch in Wrightwood on the east end, then head back west (with less stops).

Start:
Begin gathering at 7:30am, hit the road at 8am. We will be meeting in La Canada at the Town Center. There is a 2-level parking garage located at approximately 990 Town Center Drive, La Canada 91011 (that's the actual address for Panera Bread). The parking lot is on the East side of Panera. Take the 210 to Angeles Crest Hwy, go South, and turn left at the first light on Town Center (right by the Shell station), then the first right into the driveway. We'll meet on the top story. We can get coffee, food, and gas all within a small area to get ready for the road.

Heading East:
Angeles Crest has tons of scenic stops, and we'll be making some of them. We will turn off to climb Mt. Wilson all the way to the peak, which is about 15 minutes off the main highway. There's lots of views in all angles from up there, and it's a nice opportunity to walk around a bit and stretch out the legs. Hopefully we will find a couple spots for some photo opportunities. There are a few parking areas with restrooms along the way, but nowhere to stop and eat, so bring snacks or drinks along for the trip. Actual driving time is about 2 hours including the trip up and down Mt. Wilson.

Lunch:
I plan on arriving in Wrightwood around 11:30-12 for lunch. We'll be stopping at the Grizzly Cafe in Wrightwood. You can check out grizzlycafe.com for the menu etc. If we end up with a larger group than expected, I'll call ahead.

Heading West:
If you (or your wife or girlfriend) is dizzy or tired of all the curves, you can keep going east to the 15, and back to the 210 or another freeway to go home in a straight line. For everyone else, we'll head back along the Crest, maybe with just 1-2 stops. Driving time straight through is roughly 90 minutes. We'll make a final stop to say our goodbyes at one of the parking areas on the west end and call it a day, somewhere in the ballpark of 3pm.

Angeles Crest is very popular with cyclists, especially on weekends, so please take care on blind corners not to take one of them out! I will remind everyone about this before we roll!

If you're interested, reply to the thread! Hope to see you all there!
