Tuning for Perrin full exhaust?

I'm pretty new to all this stuff and I will admit I'm a pure newb when it comes to all the performance parts for cars. I just bought a new BRZ, love this car and choose it over a 370Z as I felt this car was a better ride and better car even though it's much lower power.

My question is, I'm going to order the Perring catback exhaust, not sure if ill go with the full kit yet or just the exhaust first, resonated. I read that you need to tune it or something to get performance from it or maybe I read wrong. Can someone explain to me how this works? Do you just put the exhaust I and drive on or is there much more too it then that? Thanks and sorry for sounding like an idiot I'm trying to learn as much as I can to really do this car up lol.

Most basic modifications do not require a tune.

You can simply bolt on our full header back and gain power. To get the most out of the setup however, we recommend getting a tune!

Oh ok so how exactly do you tune it? Do you mean with the chip or ecu or whatever it's called? I'm still new at it and have no idea how you do it

I ordered the entire Perrin exhaust, catback resonated, front and over pipe. Will it do any harm to the car without tuning?

The easiest way for me to give you the most amount of information on how exactly it's done, is just to link you to Jeff's blog which can be found HERE

No, it will not do any harm to the car without a tune. Your car will be fine!

You wont see much gains w.o a header or tune. Thats the conclusion us PNW FRS/BRZ owners have come to.

Am I better off cancelling my order and just get the cat back exhaust for now since I won't be a me to get a tune for awhile. I have the full cat back, front and over pipe ordered.

You will get some gains (not much parts + parts don't stack HP) Parts complement each other. A Header is what kills our torque dip and makes the true 15+ HP gains. A tune will bring out the power in the overpipe/downpipe/catback because once you install those parts your AFR's are going to get richer. A tune alone on a stock car will give a TRUE 10+ HP. When you go to get a tune it basically leans our the AFR's and creates more power. Think of it this way. a bottle flows only as fast as it's neck or the hole on the other side of the neck. The header is a bottle neck. If you create a bigger/better flow at one end you need to create more flow at the other end. It will make your car sound B.A. If I was you id buy headers first. They are 600-1000 bucks depending on who you go with. I personally bought the RevWorks header. But lots of headers are making power. RevWorks made 10-15hp/tq + filled the dip on sock exhaust + no tune. Even Nameless performance has found out mid pipes don't make more power on their axelback. It's because the stock exhaust on our car really isn't a restriction besides the header. Do some research into headers and tunes. There is lots of info on this forum. Personally from all the data i've bee seeing true power to money ratio is

#1 Turbo kits
#2 SC kits
#3 Header
#4 Tune
#5 Drop in filter
#6 Overpipe/downpipe
#7 Catback/axel back

Of course you will want to tune for any mod you do to your car to straighten out your AFR's + all the other wonders of a ECU.

Not saying don't buy Perrins product i'm just saying it wont be more beneficial power wise then other routes. But of course a tune will bring out more power in the OP/DP/CB

I made 185WHP with a drop in + op/dp/cb/drop in. (before the tune my car was running extremely rich) Now I have my headers and looking to make some real power and have no torque dip.

Headers is #1 for our car. Or simply get a turbo/SC kit.

In the PNW we had a stock car basline on the PRE dyno at 171 WHP. Or other buddy dyno'd at 172 with a perrin exhaust + intake because his car is running super rich (no tune).

Ok I understand in some ways what your saying, I'm still new to all of this so I'm a newb when it comes to performance on cars for the most part. I don't think perrin has a header yet, and I'd like to keep all exhaust parts under the same company just so I don't run into any complications of 1 part not properly fitting etc... Maybe I will just get the cat back exhaust for now, just to get a better sound from the car. I'm not I a huge rush to add hp as I'm still learning all of this. I just figured I'd start with the exhaust first and made sense to buy the whole package to get it installed in 1 shot instead of getting 1 part installed and then say, the Perrin front pipe installed a month later.

All headers that are available will mate to perrin parts. All manufactures are making parts "factory fitment" which means you can mix up parts all your want.

Does anyone know when Perrin will release a header? I dislike having 50 different companies products on the same car.

Ask Perrin. You'll get a definite answer from them.
