How to remove the roof

That one's been bugging me for a while now, I can't find anything in neither Forum nor Google search.

The big idea is exchanging the OEM roof for a CF one.
I've never attempted this in my previous car so I'm curious.
Supposing the roof is spot-welded to the frame, I'm imagining drilling through the welds.
(the new one would have to be fastened w/ screws through those holes, right?)

I can't think of any other way. Or am I wrong? If anyone has stripped his Toyobaru off the rubber guards or even attempted that roof removal, I'd be glad for advice and/or pics.

The CG is already low. Why change the roof?

or simply, as w/ essentially ALL custom mods: Cuz I can.

If I'm gonna clean away that antenna, likely welding and painting the whole roof over, I figured I might as well just buy another roof w/o that hole in it. It might be just that: a cleaner solution.

Im pretty sure the cf roof is a overlay for appearance not removal of roof. Id assume the roof is welded on for structural regiity . Probably would not be safe to remove and put cf.

I need me some carbon fiber wheels and tires. Once carbon fiber engines are available I will swap out that heavy FA20 and make my FR-S super light..

AMS did a write up this a few years ago for an evo. You have to cut out the old roof and bond in the CF one using special bonding adhesives.

Siebon makes both an overlay, and replacement, so clearly it can be done.

Yeah, it is not an easy process. I know you have to drill out the spot welds to remove the stock one. I don't think the new one gets bolted in place...it might just be epoxied in or something. I could ask my friend (did this in his Evo...or had it done, rather). But yeah, the easiest answer is call around and find a race shop local to you that has done this in the past and let them do it

Just asked my friend...he said:

Riveted and epoxied. We drilled out the stock welds on the OEM roof and put rivets in the same spots

Might be hard to find one but yeah...
I figured/feared as much, never woulda attempted anything like it myself.
But srsly, ppl seem to be forgetting the obvious advantages:
For closing the antenna hole an exchange for a cf roof might just be easier (no welding and resulting bends in the metal), less messy (paintjob in a simple room, not right ON the car) and easier to reinstall (again, no rewelding w/ resulting flaws)
For the long run, NO need to worry about corrosion/rust on the roof, either! It's CF!

I'm not too keen on glues or bondos but I fear that there's no avoiding SOME messy actions.

And YES, I'd paint the CF over, anyway. Don't like that look and care little about the insgnificant weight loss. Care very much about noncorrosive materials, though.

Epoxies used to bond composites are very strong. It certainly isn't any glue that you could pick up at the local store.

Do you have corrosion problems on the roof of your car?

I know, I've Worked with epoxies occasionally.
Doesn't mean i have to like the idea

From my honda experience, it's sth. I like to watch out for preemptively
