Small Specks on hood after last winter

I washed & waxed my Firestorm recently after the winter and noticed specks & marks that won't rub out. I've tried cleaner wax, clear coat rubbing compound and claybar but the marks still show. I can't figure it out. It seems to be mainly on the hood. It's like some pollutant is baked into the clear coat. I waxed it initially last fall about 2 weeks after I brought it home & did not notice any paint issues then. Anybody have a clue?

Here are some photos. Sorry for the quality The pots only show up under florescent lights. I can't see them in daylight. I used Meguiar's Carnauba Wax last fall & again when I saw this. Always waxed cool in the garage. Name: paint1.jpg

That second photo was enlarges greatly & I used the reflection of the lights to make the spots show. The first is more representative. The black strip on the first photo is the rubber strip at the front seam of the hood.

I want to say it looks like hard water spots. Have you tried taking a very fine polish to it to see if it comes off? That was the only way I could get the hard water spots off my glass.

that is a bit more helpful, but it looks like road rock chips? are they raised or indented? Can you feel them after a wash if you lightly drag you hands over the areas?

Are these "spots" only located in certain areas, or all over, only on vert or horz panels?

Cheers,
GREG

They seem very much like water spots. The surface is perfectly smooth - especially after the clay bar. These are not stone chips.

I should also add that they are all over the hood. Maybe a little on the rest of the horizontal surfaces.

TRy some vinegar if you think they are water spots, if they haven't etched the paint that should work.

The white specks in photo 2 look like chips..... but you would know best. The photos are difficult.

Cheers,
GREG

Thanks Greg, BTW I looked at your website - great job! Is that straight white vinegar or should I dilute it? What about a cleaner polish? Any off the shelf product recommendations? You can send me a personal email if it violates forum rules.

The "white" specks you are showing are not water spots in my opinion. that wooks like fall out from the environment. Yet you say clay did not remove them, and nor did a mild compound? And the surface is smooth.....

I think you need to take it to a real pro detailer to have an up close and personal look. I just cant figure it out 2000miles from you.

give Greg a call, he is a ways from you but it might work out. NO he is not related to me in anyway, even though his name is greg and his shop sounds like mine LOL
