Wind + Door = Eff me

Huge gust of wind caught my door as I was getting out of the car today. It just ripped it from me before I was able to get the handle. Thought my door was going to be ripped off. But no just made a little dent by the front hinge and now it doesn't let the rear close all the way. The front at the bottom of the door also is now pushed in and the top on the back side of the door is out. Its like the hinge twisted.

I stopped by the dealer right away but most the service team was gone. There was a sales guy I was talking to about it.. he said most of it could be done under warrenty but I dont know. That hinge should not have done that. I did call insurance when I got home though incase the dealer cant take care of it.

Wow, that's a bummer. I think the salesman might have been wrong but what do I know. If they don't cover it under warranty your auto policy will under comprehensive coverage (damage caused by wind). One redeeming factor is most insurance companies do not consider comprehensive claims as chargeable and it won't affect your rates.

That sucks big time! Hopefully things go smoothly for the repairs. I have to say, I really hate the wind. Out if weather conditions it's a close second place to the most hated for me. Especially dive for the past week it's been blowing nonstop where I am

The door looks like (and from what you explained) it was hyper extended. The striker on the pillar needs to be hit in. Also is the door level with the fender now and the gap door x fender may be tighter now as well

Yeah for some reason it's super windy today (Illinois). The door is so light that's why I always open my door with caution

Yep. It was hyper extended and maybe twisted a tad.

Winds Blow!

For some reason the winds have been terrible here for the past year or so. We used to think of 40+ MPH as storm winds that we'd only see a few times a year if that. Now it seems it's a couple of days every week. And with the sand on the roads from winter, it's like driving in a sandblast machine at times.

Sorry to see this happen, I've had a few close calls lately with my daily drivers. I've gotten so I put the window down to give it less surface area and I still have to hold on with both hands.

Easy to have happen so don't beat yourself up too bad. Just get it fixed and get back to enjoying your car.

Since the doors are so long I nailed rubber hoses to the side of my garage so the doors wouldn't get dinged if I parked too close.

It almost got me as well. A gust grabbed the door but I held on.

These doors are not light.. if you think they are light, then you would fuse the metal when shutting the doors on a wrx/sti lol. My 05 STi with the frameless doors were light as shit compared to these doors.

That sucks though man. Hopefully you can get that covered by insurance.
