Engine Bay Detailing?
What do you guys do to keep your engine bay looking nice and shiny?
And how often do you clean it? |

only thing i know of is just take some detailer to engine bay about once a month depending on how dirty your environment is.

Initial waxing of all painted areas (these are not clearcoated) then just a quick wipedown with a detailer and microfiber cloth once a week or so, depending on weather and mileage. A soft bristle paintbrush will clean dust and debris out of places that are hard to reach. Should only take a few minutes to do a reasonable job.
The engine compartment is pretty well sealed so it really doesn't get that bad. Mostly just dust and a little moisture now and then.

If you're going to use water, make sure you plastic bag any electricals so as not to get water on them, and keep water pressure low.
Alternatively, use some no-rinse wash product - Spray down with Optimum No Rinse diluted in a spray bottle, scrub really nasty areas with brush, wipe dry with microfiber. If your car has some serious long-term gunk built up, might need to go with some heavy duty degreaser. |

human excrement and your spouse's toothbrush.
I use 303 because I usually stay on top of keeping a relatively clean engine bay. |

As long as you keep up on it, it's not that hard to keep everything clean by wiping it down with a rag and some non-greasy cleaner. The hardest part is getting in all the nooks and crannies.

for light cleanups I like an old MF towel and Optimum No Rinse
I dilute ONR with distilled water for clay lubricant. I also use that same spray bottle for door jambs, and under the hood for light duty cleaning. If its a disaster, you need to cover all the electrical components like foobar said and use a stream of water (LOW pressure) with some degreaser. Kind of annoying. Stick your head under there every now and again with the ONR bottle and you'll be fine |

I think I'll keep up with the ONR. Sounds good to me.
