most gains are made from the frontpipe and overpipe

I like my motiv setup. Don't forget to heat wrap or ceramic coat you're overpipe if you get one.

First person I've seen referring to this being a "necessity". Got any background info about this?

I know a while back people were asking about the lack of heat shield on the aftermarket overpipes and people were basically saying they tracked the car multiple times w/o one with no issues.

I would recommend it, the starter in the vicinity of that area. I just heat wrapped it because of that reason, but if people aren't having any issues then I guess its optional.

For exhaust-related mods, most hp gains per dollar spent? maybe...
but most gains overall? a header, hands down.

my question- that couple hundred dollars for overpipe is worth it?
I am in searching for bolts-on mod but which one??
I sometimes cannot see it's worth to spend money on overpipe.

I don't think people really grasp how exhaust flow works.

I've seen and would expect about 4-6whp with an overpipe/frontpipe combo NA. The headers are going to make a bigger impact. The stock overpipe isn't terribly restrictive but the stock front pipe has an OEM cat and that odd little collector where it bolts to the axle-back.

I plan to run the FA20Club header with OEM overpipe/frontpipe and OEM axleback/muffler. I'm expecting about 12-15 whp gains (with modification to my current tune). I might look into the overpipe/frontpipe combo, but I need to hear what it sounds like first.

To answer your question, you can probably get more bang for your buck with an intake or tune. However, it's not a bad place to put some money. I'm hoping more suppliers make an offering. $400 for that combo is a little much to me. Maybe $200-250 and I'd already order it.

Just between the overpipe & front pipe... ON PAPER, it would seem like replacing the OEM catted front pipe with a resonated/straight pipe (or even hi-flo cat) would yield the better results.

A restrictive OEM cat seems more... well, restrictive than a crushed, twisted curvy pipe with no cat.

Its also important to note that the higher you go with horsepower, the more restrictive the OEM or even a hi-flo cat will become, and the bendy exhaust route. If you plan on going FI in the future make sure you use large enough piping so you wont have to upgrade again later on.

Ha, did you see the bends on that stock overpipe? That thing looks like ass.

As for intake goes, I would just put a drop in filter and save you're money.
