Water in trunk

I went into the trunk of my BRZ and took off the rug on top of the spare tire I saw that there was a lot of moisture and took out the spare and there was a puddle of water and decided to take out the jack and all of the foam panels and there was also puddles of water under then. I took out the back seat to see where the water was coming from and there was even more water dripping under the rear seats . I called subaru and the guy there said that I needed to drop it off for a day or two just to see where it's coming from so I said screw that and took it to a car wash and dident see where it was coming from then I saw that is coming from behind the taillights on both sides

I called subaru back and they said that I still had to drop it off to see where it was coming from and why so I guess I'll have to make an appointment for later this week but is anyone else having this problem ?

I would imagine we'd have more wide spread reports of this by now if it was a major issue. Unless the gaskets used around the tail lights are just starting to fail and we'll start seeing more of this.

Do you keep your BRZ in a garage or out in the elements?

I think the little foam that surrounds the tail light housing has a hole or maybe the bolts for the housing is not tight enough that the foam is not snug to the metal body.

I just changed my tail lights and found out that how water is kept away.

This is related to the recently updated "Moisture in the taillights" service bulletin. Make an appointment with your Subaru dealer. If they give you any trouble, tell them to read the bulletin again. They should replace both taillight seals and install new, larger nuts, as well as inspect the taillight housing for cracks. Edit: The updated Service Bulletin explicitly states that the problem does not have to be present to perform the repair, so even if they can't reproduce it, they should still repair it. Edit edit: Is anyone else having trouble with post editing not saving formatting correctly?

I had this issue with my FRS, after i did my taillights and put them back on. The issue for me was the wire was closer to the car then the foam. IT should be under the foam or the water just run along the wire to a certain spot then drips into the trunk.

My garage actually just collapsed on the brz and i just got it back a few days ago

Holy crap. Hopefully no damage (or if any only minor.)


If it was painted and they baked it that could cause the seals to fail. However I think it has more to do with the service bulletin than anything else.

There was about 3,000 in damages and I think that the guy at my dealer doesn't know what he's talking about or dident read the bulletin

Had the same problem on my car, the water under the spare tire is because these
they do a terrible job in keeping the water out, so I sprayed some flex seal under both plugs. Water has stopped. You might also want to check this thread out

I live in New England so it's still like 40s -50s

The guy at my dealership is a **** because he ALLWAYS lies about everything on the car and what they are going to do. I had a. Garage collapse on top if the car and they gave me two options ether bring it to a Body shop near my house or have it put on a flatbed and brought up to there specialty body shop so I discussed it with my dad and we agreed that if the tow was free we would do it because we would be sure that all subaru parts were used so I called back and set up a time that we would drop it off so the FLATBED could come and pick it up. Then when we dropped it off he said the FLATBED is on its way and that we just needed to get a rental so we got picked up by enterprise and we left the dealership( this is my first car by the way ). We come back when the repairs are done and I really wanted they weren't driving my car beating the piss out of it and I look at the odometer and there's another 55 miles and a paint chip in the door and we go inside and the guy at the desk is like YEA ! WE DROVE IT THERE ! So they drove the car when they said it was going to be trailered. I don't think that I will be using that dealership anymore.

I had water in my trunk last weekend, but took it out when I got back home from Sam's Club.
