Car Washing

Hey guys, just recently got my FR-S and I opted in to get that paint protection on my car from the dealer so I don't need to wax the car, im not excactly sure what coat they put on Ive been to busy to call back to ask but i do know if i wax my car I destroy the coat they put on. Anyways i was looking for some recommendations of some good soaps to wash the car and products to help it shine. Thanks Also I dont need to worry too much about water spots because I have DI water in my front yard where I wash the Car

Slightly off topic: Did the dealer actually say that wax will affect their paint protection coat? I don't know why this would be the case. Curious to know why this would be the case.

I personally use Optimum No Rinse (ONR) using the two bucket method with grit guards(youtube it if you don't know it). Wastes less water and with my gf helping me I can do a quick weekly clean in about 15 minutes or less. I've also heard Meguiar's Rinse Free express wash is great too. For the mitt I use Merino Wool Wash Mitt (from carpro) and a good waffleweave drying towel / good edgless microfiber to final dry.

For quick detailing / making it shine I use Meguiar's #34 final inspection.

Also I don't know what the paint protection from dealer is but I wouldn't trust it to protect your paint lol. Does the paint protection cover the whole car? Look into Opti-coat if you don't want to wax; it is a permanent paint protection that you really don't need to wax.

Yeah they said if I wax it it will ruin the coat they put on. The reason I listen is because my paint is protected under their warranty so it if fades or anything in the next five years its covered by them. I got is because where I go to school my car gets bird poop on it EVERYDAY! and there is really no covered parking for students.

If the coating was really going to protect the car for 5 years, do you really think WAX would be able to affect it, let alone 'ruin' it?

It's dealership BS to get more money out of you...and when the coating does wear out, they are going to tell you it's not covered because of XYZ reasons.


On topic: Meguiar's Gold Class soap is readily available pretty much everywhere and is a very decent soap.

The stuff they put on the car is also designed to allow you to wipe off anything that may get on the car such as bird poop and such. I find it perfectly capable of messing up this feature because apply wax will cover the coating therefore rendering that part useless. Not saying this stuff is worth the money (already have swirls) just outting in my 0.02 as to why they might recommend not waxing which sucks because I love waxing my cars.

+1 for ONR. Won't use another product.

If they drop that sponge, do you think they are replacing it? Or just going right back on the paint with all the gravel stuck in that sponge? Not to mention how many other cars dirt are they cleaning with that same sponge.

Every 2nd car gets a new wash mitt for me...
