Headlight tint, Lamin-X 60% smoke

So I ordered a pre-cut vinyl tint for my head lights from Lamin-X and it turned out pretty sweet. It is a light tint so my headlights are not blacked out. It masks the chrome part of the headlight pretty well. They are 60%, its a nice smoke without going blacked out.

Light output seems to be still the same, nothing noticeable yet. The vinyl was good quality and it will actually protect my headlights (a bit thicker, meaning harder to install though.)

Don't mind the little strips on the side from the first picture, those are meant to be cut out.

It was like $60 and with labor it was like $150. You can save money if you do it your self, but since they use a protective film and not just for looks, it is a bit harder to work with. i went with a professional.

Its the "Tint", the lightest one out of the 3 choices. I read somewhere that this equates to a 60% tint. Gun smoke is definitely darker. I wanted to achieve a darker look but not blacked out. It does come with fog light tint as well, but i skipped those.

Thanks a lot for your information.
I just a little bit confused. It will be blocked 40% of the output of the light (almost half), if it is equal to 60% tint.
However, you did mention that “Light output seems to be still the same, nothing noticeable yet”
What’s the reason for that?
Thanks.

ps. I know that might depend on state.
Is there any issue for pass that inspection or pull over issue after smoke head light in your state?

I only checked it at the shop after install, which was today so i will find out more tonight. At the time, it didn't look darker from stock. I will update tonight if it seems darker at night!

Yes it is illegal in most states to tint the headlights, Oregon included. Hopefully no one notices if he does get pulled over since it's not drasticly darker.

Smoking the taillights is also illegal but that doesn't stop most people. It's moderately safe if it's a light tint, but too dark will make old people run into you.

It does look good, but I think a mod that reduces headlight output is asinine.

I agree, unless you're also upping the brightness on the lights significantly with another mod.

So after a couple strip clubs tonight, I checked the head lights in the parking lot but it didn't look any darker than other cars. I think the most accurate test is to line it up with another BRZ at night and compare it side by side. I'm sure that will happen in the near future and we can find out then with our eyes or light sensors.

It does look darker parked at night. The risk factor is probably similar to driving without front license plates. Unfortunately the things I do when I go out drinking on the weekend poses more of a threat to my life or breaking the law, so tinting my headlight was not a huge concern to me. Yea I'm crazy like that.
