Noob Dyno question
This can prolly be answered in 2 seconds, googled it but im not exactly sure what to even call it so feel free to say im an idiot or say let me google that for you.
What does a break in the line of a dyno test mean? I was looking at some dynos on the forum and in the HP line there were spots where the lines would break and then continue. Does that mean the computer didnt record for a few seconds or ...? thanks |

That generally means that the inductive pickup for the engine RPM sense went away for some reason - either it was loose, there was electrical noise on the line, or something similar.
The computer was likely recording, and if you take the torque curve off the plot it will probably show you an unbroken HP curve. Last edited by Boosted2.0; 02-04-2013 at 05:51 PM. |

Yep. It is farily common on the newer digital igntions where you don't have a nice big plug wire to put the pickup on. Some dyno shops won't even give you RPM if they can't find it, so it is always best to know what kind of pickup is needed and where the dyno operator should place it before making the trip.
