HELP! 100w bulbs? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I need some advice please:

I am looking at 100w H11 bulbs that were recommended to me at a shop. When installed and aimed properly, they look great! however a friend has mentioned that 100w bulb may not work with the car and may fry the wiring.

I'm not technical and so thought to ask on here.

If the car is setup with 55w as standard, would it not mean that the cars electricals would only allow the bulb to draw 55w as well?

Or would it mean that it would draw 100w and most likely burn out a fuse?

Sorry for the newb questions, but any help is appreciated

Not a good idea.

Thicker filament will allow increase in current, which will generate more heat, possibly damaging (melting) the insulation on the wires, the connector, or even bits inside the light housing.

From how I understand it, a Watt is a unit of power...in this case, equal to Volts x Amps. The VOLTAGE of your car will remain the same...I believe it's all a 12V system (correct me if I'm wrong someone). That means that when you increase your Wattage, you end up proportionally raising your amperage (current). This causes more light, but also more heat...if the components are designed to withstand the heat generated by the 55W bulb, and you double that amount of heat, you really do risk damaging something.

Just do H11 to H9 swap. You'll get more light without using any more watts. I did mine, I love them. Helping my dad do the same thing for the bulbs for his Honda pilot (the projector low beams, NOT fogs).

If you have any questions on the mod, just goggle - there's a million DIYs out there.

Or you'll just end up blowing fuses every time you use your lights...either way, not too effective.
