Arriving in Norfolk Va on friday
I will be arriving in Norfolk Va this friday after driving across country from Coronado Ca and was wonderng if there were any local owners that meet up regularly. I will be in the area for a year or two and look forward to seeing how different the east coast is from the Washington area...

Welcome indeed!
There's also a Cars & Coffee meet on the first Saturday of every month out in VA Beach @ 1864 Laskin Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Haven't been yet myself (busy on the first saturday) but I've heard good things.

From washington state.. things are quite a bit different here. Its flat, lacking great roads.. the car scene is what it is, lots of early 20's rice rollin around but for the most part its not bad.
If you hop onto nasioc there's also a meet in VB (virginia beach) every saturday at 4pm (winter hours) I usually try to hit that one up if I can (being prior WRX owner I know all those peeps.. its a good group) Infinite mentioned the phr meets on thur's.. that's about it really. Drivers here suck balls in the worst sort of way though. As long as you dont hold that against the area its not all that bad. One recommendation though, as you go looking for places to live (I'm assuming you're military) dont put a bridge or tunnel between yourself and work and you'll be fine.

ha! Yeah man I grew up in the northeast .. these fools loose their minds when it rains let alone snows.
You'll be fine driving here, just keep an eye out for every bad driving habbit you can think of and most importantly.. leave following distance! Highways here tend to slinky really bad at rush hour. Its almost daily that people are crackin cars up becuase they're not paying attention or following too close/both. You'll also find that on often occasion that the surface roads are FASTER to get around than taking the highway. I'm assuming you're going to be stationed at NOB? |

mango speaks the truth. Preach it!
Beware of anything that is lifted - Jeep, Ford, Dodge, etc. If it's lifted, it's a douchenozzle not paying attention (posting a facebook update saying they're running over someone or something like that) or purposely trying to destroy your car. |

Well, since there's only one snow plow for the entire hampton roads area, and they don't salt or sand until it's too late, people slide all over the damn place.
Also, Mango is not making this shit up. People around here will run into you. Drive like you are on a motorcycle. Either go substantially faster than everyone and GTFO of dodge, or be prepared to slow down and make space to dodge people who are not paying attention all day long. The DAY I bought my car, I was nearly hit 4 times between the dealership and home (15 minute drive) by people changing lanes without looking, and I don't mean they realized the error and swerved off. I ended up either having to slam on the brakes, swerve into another lane, or drive completely onto the shoulder off the highway to avoid being slammed into by people in vans and trucks just not looking. |

Hampton roads is why my Hella's found their way onto my FRS vs being sold... Loud horns save lives.. and give me the ability to audibly berate an idiot when chance arises
![]() but yeah the driving public here is chock full of stupidity. You'll catch on quick though.. driving like you're on a bike is a great analogy. Its accurate. |
