Issues with Titus Will Toyota/Tail Condensation
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on terrible service at Titus Will.
Went to Titus Will toyota in Tacoma today to get condensation in my taillights resolved. The service MANAGER looks at my car for 5 seconds and tells me "We wont fix this, this is totally normal" I responded by telling him that it is not normal and I was aware of the TSB on the issue. The service manager then told me that he was a "master technician" and that he would know what is normal with the car. He then called Toyota per my request and attempted to describe the condensation, stating many times that he "knew it was normal". In short, there was quite an argument and he basically told me that I have to deal with Toyota on the issue. Another service representative took the time to take photos and send them into toyota to get it looked at further. I cannot express my lack of satisfaction with them. Condensation in taillights is not normal. At least not in any of the many many vehicles I have ever driven, owned or rented. I am filing a complaint with the general manager. Any ideas on what else I should do? Has anyone else had issues with condensation?

Anyway. I'd deal with Toyota only if you want Titus to correct their practices, otherwise I'd go elsewhere. I know for a fact that Kirkland is aware of it (as I've spoken with Chris who is a service advisor there about it). Not sure about others tho

I have contacted Scion customer service and they assured me the issue will be resolved. I will try another dealer. Thanks for your input!

@NickFRS is having these same dealer problems. I now have condensation in BOTH tail lights and I will be taking my car to my Portland area dealer to have them deal with it.

If you guys run into any trouble contact Scion customer support. They were very reassuring in that this will get taken care of. I spoke with the support representative who is in charge of the Northwest. I can get contact info when he follows up with me on Tuesday.

I literally JUST picked my car up from Toyota in Kirkland for the same issue. They've had it for going on 3 days to fix the problem. I had to make three visits and complain three times about it to have anything resolved. The first time they told me it's a normal condition as long as water is not pooling. The second time they created a case with Toyota. And the third time, the finally took the lights off to inspect the mounting bolts and found that they were over torqued which bent the sheet metal that the lights mount to, creating a space between the housing and the metal and also smashing the gaskets. They sent mine to a body shop to have the sheet metal on the car flattened back to normal and they ordered new gaskets.
Maybe you just need to be persistant. Seems to have worked for me. I'm wondering if this is what Toyota wants the dealerships to do, wait until the third visit before they actually do anything for you. I just came in once a week for a month and it seemed to have gotten me somewhere, even when I had no luck with a manager. Since these are new vehicles for Toyota, with widespread issues like these people need to take matters into their own hands and call toyota themselves. That's how TSBs and RRTs and recalls are made. If people don't complain enough about these things, they're not going to bother doing anything about it. Hopefully my fix worked. |

So the Scion reps denied my repair for this issue. They told me that the condensation is normal and that it only becomes a repairable issue when the condensation begins to pool in the lower portion of the light.
![]() Despite my efforts, they say that nothing will be done until this issue is much worse. I'm curious to see if any of you have gotten the repair without water actually pooling in the base of the light housing.

Well, don't go to Toyota of Renton, they're not any better. I'm creating a thread about my experience today.

I only noticed mine when it got really cold outside, and even then it was minor condensation. I'm still debating whether or not to get it fixed since it seems to be such a huge hassle..

It is a huge hassle! I don't think their fixes actually fix minor condensation anyway. The way the weather is here, I think those lights will just have a little condensation with temp changes. Mine seems to come and go at this point. I'm still just going to mention it at every service, just so that toyota knows its annoying to us all.

I must say, I don't see any other cars on the road with condensation in the lights. (Not from the last few decades at least)
