TF Brake Duct Cooling Kit

Here is a quick sample of the prototype brake kit that's currently in development.

No clearance issues at full lock with suspension loaded.

You can see (....kinda) the 6061-T6 aluminum backing plate inside the brake rotor. forces cool air to pass through the rotor vents.

From the front view with wheels straight. You can see where we had to trim some of the fender lining for the hose to pass through.

view from under the car. See the NACA Duct.

We could barely notice the NACA duct was even there....

Hope you enjoyed....

Why not use the fog light areas? They seem perfect for something like this!

1. It would increase the cost of the kit.
2. Location of our current NACA duct will have more direct air flow due to the shape of the bumper. Because the bumper is slanted and the opening size would be limited in the fog light hole, you wouldn't have the same air flow as the current design.
3. By creating more openings on the front of the bumper - you create more aerodynamic drag.
4. BRZ guys can use this kit too.

Yes, without a back-plate the cool air would just escape and never reach the rotors.

Yup, we want to make this kit simple and functional for both cars, without having to purchase model specific kits.

I want to see pictures of the back plate and drivers side. How are you routing it around the washer fluid tank?

Here is the prototype back plate.

Once everything is in place - we will have more detailed pics of the kit installed.

I like.

Seems properly engineered amd nicely packaged, looking forward to hearing how effective it is on the track at reducing temps.

Nice Job, TF! I also like where this project is heading!

@TF,

Do you have any ideas as to whether this kit, once fully developed, will be compatible with JDM G & RC models that come with smaller front brake set-ups?

AFAIK, the front pads are interchangeable between the higher-spec (i.e., FR-S/BRZ) and lower spec cars while the rotor sizes are different.

Thanks in advance.

I love that backing plate! It's so key! This should help me get more life out of my brakes and maybe even put off the expense of a BBK for a while longer.

I don't like your front intake solution though (no offense). I hope you can sell the kit w/o that piece because I want to use something like these guys have.
