Few questions about MF towels.
My MF towels are starting to feel rough, they don't have that softness they use to have new. They aren't even a year old yet. Are they post to be like that? Could it be the way i wash them?
I treat them like clothes, throw it in the washer then the dryer. Is that wrong? Does high quality MF towels make a difference then the ones id buy at Auto Zone per say? |

I've been buying the yellow ones from Costco for years now and they are still as soft as they were when new. I wash them separately from everything else, using regular laundry detergent. I never use any fabric softener because I remember reading somewhere that fabric softener shouldn't be used on microfiber towels. Then I throw them in the dryer. I've reused mine lots of times and they're still in great shape.

BTW, keep in mind that the whole purpose of using MF towels is to avoid putting any micro-scratches in your paint. So if you're worried that your towels could mess up your paint, there's an old detailer's trick to testing them. Just take your MF towel and rub it on a CD or DVD and see if it puts any scratches on it. If it doesn't scratch the CD, it's not going to scratch your paint. At least that's what they say on the detailer forums.

lol. jokes aside, you should always hang dry your towels. i think it's ok to wash them in a washing machine, just don't use any bleach or anything, but for drying it's best to hang them. i think it's the heat when machine drying that stiffens them up a bit.

I soak or put them in the washer and add vinegar where the fabric softener is supposed to go. This is especially handy using the cloths I use on windows because fingerprints and so on are oil and vinegar will pull the oils out make a clean wipe.

All free & clear. Hottest wash cycle you have, even sanitize if you have it. Heinz cleaning vinegar in the fabric softener. Dry on the lowest heat setting you have till towels are 80% dry, then hang dry. Dry heat, fabric softener, bleach, and softener sheets are all bad for mf.

I hand wash and hang dry my MF towels.
Certain type of detergents may ruin the MF fabric material; and machine dry is an obvious No-No. Time to get new ones.
