Delivery fee dealership trick

I went in recently to do some probing about picking up an FR-S. The dealership said they had one coming in already that was the exact paint/trans that I wanted and printed me out a paper with all the info. It also had a few minor addons like wheel locks, etc., that added up to about $450 extra and said the car was coming that way because it was a dealership allocation. Fast forward to days later when I went back in to ask if it was still unspoken for. They said yes and that I could put a deposit on it if I wanted, and it would be there in about two weeks. However this time they added in the delivery fee since it was being delivered. I questioned them on why since it was already being shipped to the dealership and I hadn't actually ordered it. Are they trying to pull a fast one since it was coming regardless and I placed no order? The price they quoted was also $200 above what it would be if they added in the $755 delivery, so I'm guessing they are also thinking of tossing on some dealership extras before the sale. Is the delivery fee only applicable to custom orders?

IIRC there's almost always a "Destination charge" built into the purchase price of a new vehicle.

No, not only on custom orders. Delivery fee is pretty normal for all new car purchase (listed on the invoice)

I had no freight, extra, dealership, gimmick, shitty salesman fee's on my Argento 86. $24,950. Called a random dealership asked of they had one. Guy said just came off the truck 2 days ago, said ill be there within the hour 2g's down plus trade and rolled off that evening.

All new cars have a destination charge, buy used if you want to avoid it.

There is a standard deliver fee for these cars which is $755. However, there is such a thing as a "regional destination fee" that applies to specific states in the US. Normally this applies to the "Gulf States", this time it doesn't, rather it applies to:

NC, SC, GA, AL and FL. The additional charge for these states is another $55 bringing the total dest. fee to $810.
