Another dealership story...
I'm gonna keep it concise:
I dropped off the car at the dealership because they told me to do it on friday (for the spoiler). The rep told me it'll be done by saturday. So I dropped off my car... then they told me that the work cant be done till monday, because precious union laws forbid weekend jobs. Then why the **** not SUNDAY so they can work on it the next morning? (DERP) Anyway, I picked the car up on monday and realized that there's significant higher miles on my odometer than when i dropped it off... Confronted the representative about it and he said that they couldnt bring it in on a truck bed.Ok, I let that one slide. Car was atleast washed and in pristine shape... or so i thought. I arrived home and checked my car closely under the light. I discovered new scratches and swirls that were never there before. On top of that they installed a defective spoiler with ruined paint and scratch on it. Interior center console had scratches too that weren't there before. So, How should I grill these motherf*ckers? Medium? Well done? Also, now I understand why most of you Do It Yourself. Last edited by frosty86; 10-16-2012 at 03:24 AM. |

Wow sounds sus. Reminds me of a story my grandparents told me.
They had a nice boat they had in for a service which they dropped off just before new years expecting it to be done before the holidays. They got a call saying it wouldnt be ready and to pick it up after new years. A little pissed but oh well. Grandparents decide to watch the fireworks from the harbor on new years and on the water what do they see? Their boat being used for a new years party on the water by the shop they took it too. So they busted the guy and he serviced the boat for free plus whatever else so they wouldnt call the cops for theft. Moral of the story, err, i wish you caught them out if they were using it for a weekend joy ride. |

If you noted the mileage when you dropped it off, find out where they drove it to and drive the route yourself. If there's a large difference in mileage between what they drove and what you did, I'd ask more questions. I don't think you can 'prove' anything, but you may get something out of the dealership.
If you didn't note the mileage, you may be SOL.

Next time I'm resetting the 'B setting' which records miles driven. I'll take picture of the miles on odometer and ask exactly where the service center is... because there's a toyota service center attached to the next building so I assumed they'd take it there. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna install that camera too called goPro or whatever.

When you dropped your car off, did they not record the mileage? I haven't been in for service at a Toyota dealership yet, but when I worked at Sear's Auto Center, the car's mileage was recorded for the work order. Check your receipt and see if it's on there.

No, they didn't. They only requested the Key. The place is an upside down shithole compared to the customer service I got from BMW.

Installing the 5 axis requires no drilling correct? Why would you even have the dealer install it?

Dealership should only be used for warranty work. Anything else should be done by a specific shop (body shop for appearance stuff, exhaust shop for exhaust work, tuner for engine work, etc) or by yourself. Sad, but true. Dealership service departments just aren't staffed or set up to handle that kind of broad-range work well. You can get the work done, sure, but a specialist would do it better...even if it costs a little more (which is probably arguable anyway...dealership prices are generally insanely high, especially in the parts department), it'd be worth it to get quality work done.
Also, only use trusted, well-reputed shops for the work, even if it's a bit of a drive to get there. For example, you may have a Tuffy down the street, but if you have a professional exhaust shop a few cities away...something the local racers take their cars to when they need exhausts built...it'd be worth the extra drive. Do a bit of research to find the best shops in your area for various kinds of work, and keep those numbers handy for when you need to have something done in the future.
