Tinting Headlights

Hola, and sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.

I've seen everyone blacking out the chrome in their headlights, but I was curious about tinting them.

Anyone have any info on how or what to use? Just regular window tint? I've searched around quite a bit and can't seem to find a concrete answer.

I was looking for this sort of effect.

And last but not least...which % of tint would be the darkest without affecting light output?

Thanks!:happy0180:

Thanks for the 'info'. Perhaps I should have worded that differently... What is the darkest tint you could go without having to upgrade from stock headlights

I wouldn't tint your headlights, any amount of tint is going to impact the light output. If you want the blacked out look, you should paint the inside of the housing.

I tinted my headlights as well.

www.lamin-x.com is who I used. They have many different colors and it BARELY affects the output.

I don;t think you want to tint your head light unless you not plan on driving your car at night because you will loose a lot of visorbility from the headlight.

There's precuts for sales if you want. For example modbargains dot com
(no affiliation)

This looks great. Definitely the look I was going for. What % is that and how much does it affect your light output? I'm running stock headlights, no HID's or anything.

I was thinking rather than over 50 bucks on precut covers I could buy some vinyl film from an auto parts store and go to town on the lights with a hairdryer and squeegee.

I'm not looking for a limo tint or anything like that. Just slightly darker. Like 30-35%.

I got all my lights tinted blue. I think it's technically illegal in MA, but I still get plenty of visibility. I use Osram night breaker +90 bulbs. I don't think I would do anything dark like smoke or black.

the tint is 6%. They have the gunsmoke (it's what is on the side lights) and that's 13%. Light output difference is negligible.
