springs vs coilovers?? which is best?

so i just purchased this set up for my car volk rims 5x100 18x8.5 for the front and 18x9.5 for the rear ...now my question is if i purchase just springs what else do i need to drop it and be running a smooth ride? and if i get the adjustable coilovers (tein or ksport since its good and a lil bit cheaper) what else do i need for this? im new to the whole suspension scene so i need help :/ i tried searching but i find either topics on one or the other..i keep hearing about camber kits and what not..but its like #$^%^$%^&8!!@ to me..help!!

You tried searching? Read the Stickied threads at the top of this forum to start. Springs and coilovers both work very well on this car just depends on what you are looking for. What is the offset of the wheels and what tire sizes are you running?

I'm running Tein H Tech's and am happy with them but that being said if i had $2k laying around i would have got KW V3's. What are your plans for the car? Is it just a daily driver or will it see any track duty?

nice..i dont have $2k i have 1k lol..but idk what to go with..and i just got some rims but im still debating on what to get..and daily driver and maybe track on weekends..ive only put 500 miles on it as of this morning so still breaking it in

Save up and get a quality coilover. Or you can try something like Fortune Auto. (not saying they aren't ok)

Personally I'd recommend a spring until your stock shocks are due for replacement. (20-40k miles)
What is wrong with the stock suspension? What do you wish to achieve? If yiu just want a lowered look, get springs. Or drive stock until you can justify a reason to upgrade. Drive it more first.

They could be used but i hear ya, i am in shock when i see Volk's or Work's with Nexen tires too. $1k will get you a decent coilover but doesn't include install or alignment parts.

I would say get some nice springs (RaceComp, Eibach, Tein), oem camber bolts, and whatever's left put in to your tire budget maybe.

That happens all the time. Obviously, OP just wants to look the part, which is fine I guess. I've always been a function over form type of person, but to each his own.

OP, I assume you just want a drop and look cool and 'stanced' right? Well, comfort doesn't come cheap. All the cheapo entry level coilovers at ~$1000 are essentially the same with different names. While most provide separate ride height adjustment, there just isn't enough travel in the shock and the valving is crap to provide the comfy ride you're looking for.

I don't know what I can suggest that would be in the ~1000 range, but if you wait a couple of months, I'm sure standalone shocks like Konis are going to be released. Pair that with a decent set of springs and you'll have a better ride than stock and any cheapo coilovers. Maybe you'll even save a couple bucks.

just i keep hearing that the adjustable coilovers are more for track and i dont do much track..so i thought id stick maybe with some good springs

well i dont know if the rims will look weird on the stock suspension..i thought id i dropped it an inch it look better..i dont like the big gap..seen a couple fr-s's around and some didnt drop it on 18's and its not very nice..im thinking of going with the TEIN Flex adjustable coilovers they are around 1600 because ive read a couple of threads that said some of the cheaper coilovers werent too good..which in my experience ive only used tein before and they were great.. and its going to be a DD and track every other weekend aslong as i dont work since i work in the medical field i have every other weekend off so thats what i was thinking.

yah i was thinking about the TEIN Flex coilvers..had them on my gsx before and they were great..

as for the stock suspension ..nothing is wrong i just dont want the GAP after i put on the bigger rims and bigger tires..its a DD and every other weekend take it to the track and ..but then again im a little low on cash since i have allready purchased some parts and spent a couple g's so i was trying to see what i could afford at the moment that can be upgraded later on when its really needed get me? i was looking at the RCE Starter kit "lite"
- RCE Yellow springs with shortened bumpstops
- OEM camber bolts
- Whiteline rear camber adjustment bushing

made for stock shocks and its not that much of a drop
Spring rates:
250 lbs/in front and rear
Drop:
20mm drop front and rear.

Can't go wrong with the RCE springs or Starter Kit, the rear camber bushing is just way too difficult for me to install and i don't have anybody i trust to do it.
