Gas gauges do that; they're not precision instruments. Don't even worry about it

I think I know what you are talking about. This has happened to me a few times as well. Every once in a while, when I fill the car, the needle stops about a needle's width short of full. The first time it happened, I made it a few blocks, and thought WTF? I pulled into the next gas station and managed to pump about 30 cents worth into it.

Several people have mentioned this for this car. I think I prefer the Honda method which is often erroneous too. In their case it reads full for the first 3 gallons of usage then drops off significantly. I remember in my older Si's that I would make it a game to get as many miles as possible before the needle moved. Just over 100 is my record which is almost 1/3rd of the tank.

This is an issue I have quite frequently, I'll put a full tank and it only goes up to 3/4.

I had this happen to me also for about 6 fill ups would not go past 3/4 mark. then one day while driving around the gas gauge moved to full mark and knock on wood
, so far after 3 fill ups seems to be working fine now when I go and fuel up.

Call Subaru customer service instead. They'll tell you to go to the gas station. I don't know what I would do without those guys.

This is just how the Denso or the fuel tank manufacturer (I forgot their name) designed it. My current car is also like this. It takes a few minutes or so after refueling to get an accurate reading and sometimes when you're on a hill or something, it can be a little off. So yeah, annoying but I'm pretty sure that's just how it is so there's no sense demanding a fix.
Edit: I suppose this may not be the same issue if it never goes past 3/4 tank... In which case, that is a bit strange. All the more reason I wish it had a digital miles until empty display.
