Help us join together to give owners a REAL voice.
Hello,
I am sending this message out to ALL FR-S and BRZ owners who have reported having issues with the CEL (Check Engine Light). While it's good that we can discuss our issues in forums, I found that both Dealerships and Scion/Subaru/Toyota DO NOT TAKE FORUMS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. Often the response when we tell dealers or the manufacturer that we have information through forums is that it's all a bunch of exaggerations, lies and hearsay. I think that in order for the Dealerships, Scion, Toyota, and Subaru to take us seriously is that if we put some real names behind our claims. I have created the Facebook group, "FR-S / BRZ Owners CEL & Problems Group" for us to join and communicate and hopefully bring our problems together and get some REAL RESULTS from these companies. I don't know about you, but I'm very upset that my BRAND NEW CAR has been sitting in a dealership lot with a real defect and we're not getting a real answer or consistent message as to how to fix the vehicle. Not only that, but where do we go in the future if other timing related issues pop up? What do we do if these engines grenade in 100k? These are all questions I feel they need to address to satisfy us with our purchase. Another thing that joining this group will help us with is the constant claim from Dealerships and manufacturer reps is that we all seem to be the "first" car they have heard of. I know it's not true and we need a real voice to prove it. If you know anyone else with issues with Scion/Toyota/Subaru, please ask them to join as well. http://www.facebook.com/groups/frsbrzcelowners/ James Pruski |

I see this issue as a relatively benign factory defect that will ultimately get resolved with replacement parts and dealership service.
That dealers are not recognizing that having a brand new car sitting for days or longer until this is resolved is a whole other situation. I believe that it is irrelevant whether many people on the forums have had similar malfunctions. What is important is that if your car has this malfunction, that your dealer gets it resolved in a timely manner. And if the cannot, you should be given compensation for your inconvenience in the form of an equal or better value loaner vehicle until the fix is performed, or more. Not too sure starting a "mock class action" is the right way to go. And, you should not be surprised if a dealer hasn't previously encountered this issue considering most dealers allotments are very small for the FR-S. Whether the manufacturer has circulated a bulletin is another issue. I haven't encountered this problem (knock on wood), but if I did I would rationalize with the service dept. regarding any prolonged inconvenience and request they take care of me. If the are unresponsive, THEN I would contact corporate.
