Buzzing / Compressor Sound from Gas Tank Area

Anyone else experienced this? I noticed it one night after the car had been parked for a few hours. It had also rained that day and as a result was very humid.

Apparently it has been heard before but no one mentioned it to me as they thought I already knew.

I'll upload a video shortly, but is this something common? I have yet to read through all the manuals looking for any info on this so if it's there, pardon my ignorance.

Thank you all.

Just seems odd it'd be periodic with the car off, as I've never noticed it with other vehicles. Though that's something I've considered. And if working as designed, nothing to worry about.

Self testing mechanism then?

Thanks for the input

I believe it's explained in the manual.

Sounds good. Looked around a bit more to find it's probably just keeping it all pressurized. Which is what I thought, but it still seems new to me given I've never noticed it before with any other vehicles.

Thanks to both of you for your input. I'll verify with the manual.

Here's what BRZ's manual says:

Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine

Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound
coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

Just noticed this sound a few minutes ago for the first time. Just as I started to attempt to take video with my phone of me zeroing in on the general sound location it...it stopped. Came to google it and found your post. Exactly what I was hearing. Thanks for the assistance.
BTW I hadn't driven it for just over 5 hours , so that estimate seems very accurate in my case.

Thanks for this. It's crazy it's so long after the car has been shut off. My old Echo used to do this but it was usually within minutes of being turned off. I walked into the garage one night a week or so ago and heard the FRS going and was like what?

Crazy timing on this post. Walked into the garage last night and heard this noise. Could not for the life of me figure out what it was, lol. Thanks for the heads up and at least accounting for one of the random noises in my head!

My wife woke me out of a dead sleep last night to show me my car making this noise. I wasn't impressed and went back to sleep.

I woke up this AM to an email she sent me linking to this thread.

I'd never noticed the sound until she showed me last night.

The Ms. walked in on the car making this noise last night. Stopped as soon as I sat in the car. Glad I found this thread.

Just had this happen to me. Thought it was the garage door, but tracked it to the car. First time I ever heard and thought I'd have to make a dealer appointment. Never had a car make this noise on me before.

Thumbs up

I experienced this for the first time today a few hours after some spirited country road driving. I was worried that something was effed up as i've never heard this before in any other car. While driving, I did happen to hear a bong while downshifting. I wonder if that audible alarm is an indicator of the upcoming test? I haven't consulted the manual yet. Just throwing ideas around. Very reassuring thread for sure for sure.
