snorkel removal
So after removing my snorkel from the car with the air raid intake sound improved even more.
Just food for thought for anyone that doesn't have an intake and wants more sound, its super easy to do Remove the 10m nuts and 2 clips on top of the bumper, pul bumper back, make sure you pull back where the bumper overlaps the headlamps, this will give you tons of room to remove the 2 10mm nuts fastening the snorkel, tada your done. I've never tried this with the stock intake but hey, give it a shot! Lemme know how it goes! |

(From previous threads) Initial testing showed that removing the snorkel on stock reduced HP. Something to do with more turbulent air etc.
However, this is not the case with the airaid system due to the built in velocity stack. |

I don't think it's necessarily a turbulence issue. On the airaid system, the snorkel is significant bottleneck. By removing it, the temperature of the air you're drawing in goes up a little, but the extra air you flow more than makes up for it. On the stock intake, however, the snorkel isn't a significant bottleneck, so all you really get is the warmer air, which in turn reduces power.
Just a theory, but if it's true it would explain those results. |

This has been covered elsewhere but I don't want to leave misinformation out there. The Airaid breathes the same cool air from the front bumper, snorkel or not.
Also the stock intake loses power without the snorkel because the sharp edge on the stock airbox is not conducive to smooth airflow entering the box. It's been proven on the flowbench and the dyno. Look at the stock snorkel and you will see a trumpet shape on the end. |
