asymmetric front camber *fixed*

With RCE SS-2 coilovers, I was only able to get just over -2 degrees left front camber, while on the right a lot more available. With camber bolts at the left front strut, still was only able to get -3.0 (-3.5 desired for track). I've thought about loosening front subframe bolts and scooching it over a bit, but not really a job for me in the driveway. Finally took it to Wile Motorsports in Walpole Mass (primarily BMW shop) and they gave it a shot. They didn't sound optimistic about how much movement they got but then on the alignment rack, -3.6, nice! Now the right side is limited to -3.3, but I can do the camber bolt thing there no prob. Was in a hurry to get on the road so we left it asymmetric for now which will be fine for Mosport in a couple of days (clockwise circuit).

Anyway, if you have asymmetric camber and would like to get more on the side that's limited, shifting the subframe might work for you.

Interesting, do you know if your car was ever in a collision?

Glad to hear it. One of those things where it's easy for us to suggest that over the internet but not really that easy to do. Sounds like you had a solid shop to work with. Makes me think about those old spoon rigid subframe collars...

It was just off the truck at the dealer when I test drove it, plunked down $500 on the spot and picked it up 2 days later So I don't *think* any collisions...

My 1st-gen was off in the other direction I think. These cars are designed to be mass produced for low $$$, not to ensure camber is within a tenth of a degree L/R, or even half a degree L/R...

Exactly, I've been friends with the owner for over 10 years now, from tracking together with the same club (COMSCC). They do a lot of work on dedicated race cars and street/track cars. Employees are smart and do great work, and let me hang out and give feedback on what I want. BMW shop so they weren't sure but were glad to give it a try.

Me trying to do that job in the driveway was never gonna work out well...
