Wheel stud removal question (without removing rotor)
Hi
I have a stripped wheel stud on the front that I need to replace. All the videos/guides I have gone through suggest this: 1. Remove brake caliper 2. Remove rotors 3. Remove old stud My question is, can I just not hammer the old wheel stud out without removing the rotor? Why not? If I can, I am hoping to slide the new wheel stud in, maybe put a tape or something behind it to somewhat hold it in place. Put the lug nut over the rotors to pull the stud in. Any issues with this? My reason for this is, trying to avoid taking the rotor off, if I can as it's usually stuck pretty good. 2015 Scion FRS Thank you |

It works, but there's just one position of the hub that lets the stud slide out.

One downside I have seen people discuss is that hammering out the stud puts stress on the bearings and other parts that you are hammering against. If doing one stud I would not worry about it. I have seen MANY people beat these out in videos without issue. Make sure you have a plan to install the new stud.

Why not just take the caliper and rotor off?
