Perfect wheel fitment?

Tossed on some 18x9.5 +45 wheels with 255/35 tires for a meaty and aggressive setup on the GR86! What wheel setups are you guys running?

I looked around the forum and came across a stickied thread in the wheels section that alleged to answer my question but seemed to have a bunch of broken links on it (at least one of which goes to one of those "would you like to download a virus pretending to be security software" sites).

My question is simply what's the "ideal setup" running stock suspension - where "ideal" means widest wheel/tire combo that doesn't rub, doesn't require modification to the car, and retains stock circumference so the speedometer stays accurate.

I know the stock wheels are 18x7.5 +48 and I would like to keep an eye out for a good deal on something lighter but I want to know where the line is between "fits stock" and "needs work". I don't want to roll/shave fenders at all, but coilovers are something I'm considering down the road, maybe.

Wheels/tires are an easy sell to the wife because we need a set for winter and I'm thinking the stock wheels will do nicely for that (so I'm not paying someone twice a year to mount/unmount my tires).

So what I'm looking for is something along the lines of "18x8 +45 is the biggest that fits without rubbing on a stock car" or whatever the actual numbers would be. After that it's fairly simple to calculate the rubber that goes on that wheel without bulging or throwing off the speedo.

Fitment Industries Gallery is a fantastic tool for figuring out what works and what doesn't work and how it will look. This is a 18x8.5 on a 235/40 stock and it fits perfectly fine and look half decent.

I just picked up my BRZ and put on 18x8.5 plus 43 Wedssport TC105X with 245 40 18 Falken 615k+ tyres. Currently stock suspension till the coilovers go on, it only just clears everything, if you drive like you stole it, minimal scraping when hitting bumps when loaded up in corners. If you drive quickish then zero issues.

Scraping where?

I believe on front and rear outer edges, although front could be front springs as there is very little space. Its only minor and I haven't seen any damage on tyres yet.
