Diagnostic Question P000A and C1201

I have two codes that appear simultaneously. P000a (camshaft A slow to respond bank 1) and c1201 (engine control system malfunction). I found it odd that the second code related to engine management is stored in the ABS/VSC/TRAC module. It's my guess that one is causing the other. I have already moved the VVT solenoid to see if code would follow. It does not. Still cam A bank 1. Code setting criteria list a few different possibilities. Low oil pressure/possible blocked journal. Possible bad VVT phaser/sprocket. Possible bad camshaft position sensor. Possible bad electrical connection. Code sets within a few miles after clearing but is not instantaneous. My question is this. Is there a diagnostic process for a blocked journal or VVT sprocket? Or am I just going to have to fire off the parts cannon at it? Changing the sprocket is a shit ton of work to find out that its a blocked journal. I am going swap cam position sensors and see what happens. Any input is appreciated. I seem to find a few people with the issue but no solutions or they take it to the dealer and they can't seem to fix it either. Also considering swapping abs module to see if it's a possible bad module but I hate coding VINs with my limited equipment. It's hit or miss. How are the pirate copies of Techstream that can be purchased online?
