All season tires

Seriously considering ordering a ‘22 BRZ Limited, trading my 2019 Subaru Outback. Local dealers in the Allentown PA area all asking MSRP, no discounts. Will be calling SOA to see if I can get a loyalty coupon.

I prefer not to have two sets of tires/rims, so contemplating replacing stock Michelin Pilot Sport summer tires with all seasons at the dealership prior to delivery (Selling Michelin Pilot Sport tires). Looking at TireRack… choices: Michelin Pilot Sport All Season or Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 plus. Both seem to be highly rated. Your thoughts/recommendations please!

Those are both great tires from what I understand. Honestly, I’d just buy whatever you can get a better deal on. Since you are going all-season, outright performance should not be a huge concern.

My personal experience with the Conti DWS is super favorable so i'd recommend those.

I plan on doing this also (but keeping summer ones), personally going with the Continentals.

I hear really good things about the AS3's and the new AS4's. They will likely end up on my upcoming BRZ someday.

I don't know how bad your winters are, but as someone who's driven fleet vehicles on all seasons in Canadian winters...as far as I'm concerned they're no season tires, basically there's no season where they're good, a compromise where they're ok to tolerable for all the seasons. On a cold day those all seasons are dreadful, and totally useless when ice is a factor. If you have serious winters and you don't like changing sets of tires, forget all seasons, go for all weather. They're expensive but they're safe all year round.

If you don't have serious winters, then an all season can get you by, of course I'd much rather get a proper summer tire when its not cold than any all season. Since experiencing a summer and winter tire combo, I will never buy an all season tire ever again.

there it is. i was wondering how long it would take before someone slams all seasons.

around chicago, all seasons are FINE. they shut down the roads and demand we all stay home in extreme weather situations anyways.

I have all season Michelin’s on my 2013 BRZ and they are very competent tires. But they don’t handle as sharply as even the Michelin primacy tires it came with.

I’ll likely get another set of wheels and summer uhp tires next spring.

In metro Atlanta we don’t get much snow but we do get stretches of weather in the 40’s and below

Which Michelins? Pilot AS4s? AS3s? Something else?

If you need to be somewhere and you have significant snow then you need snow tires. But if you can just stay home when it’s bad then all seasons are fine. Personally with light snow, I think the compromise in the winter is not as bad as the summer one. Sticky summer tires are just so good. But if you want the car to be playful then all seasons in the summer is not that bad. I do summers and all seasons on my BRZ, but I have a WRX with snows. If the BRZ was my only option, I would have snows here in NY.

I love Conti DWS tires. In milder climes like the southern US they totally work as "winter" tires. I'm tempted to use them that way in Chicago, where they're workable in that role (albeit obviously not as well as a dedicated set of snows). In the summer months they're as good as the high end dedicated street performance tires were 20yrs ago. They really are that good.
