Track Day Excessive Oil Temp for factory recommended 0w-20 persists

Just watched....ugh....savagegeeses' video...1 min into it noticed 250 on the oil temp....87 degrees outside.

Why oh why can't they just integrate an oil cooler into the radiator?

Majority of owners won't need one.

If anything it would be nice to see a factory oil cooler option offered from the dealer.

Cost. The new one has a water to oil heat exchanger.

Noticed that. I installed one of those soon after I purchased my Series.Blue.

Only thing it *may* have helped was to normalize temps quicker after a hard run.

I believe that is more of the point. At least that's what I feel I remember people pointing to a few years back when the Forester mod was common. Plus many cars in our budget don't have a 'proper' oil cooler. Hell, even the S2000 has one like the new BRZ/86.

Our 2020 Outback XT has oil cooler, transmission cooler, and heat exchangers for both. Ohh well.

I guess I'm glad the "track mode dash setting" shows the oil temps. Us OG owners back in the day had to buy a P3 guage to watch it on a track

Sucks, but just gotta plan to either delete the stock cooler and go with an air cooler or cut the lip off the stock oil cooler and put a sandwich plate on that. The latter being the ideal solution for most people that still street drive, I suspect.

FA24 also seems to have a better oiling system than the FA20 so we'll likely be able to just run 5w30 or 5w40 and be "fine" for mild track use with the stock cooler.

250F is no big deal. My oil temp stabilizes at 270-275F at the track and never goes into runaway oil overheating. 275F is not a problem for good synthetic oil. I do run 30-wt during track season, I wouldn't run 20wt at those temps...

Oil cooler is not required for "casual" HPDE type track usage (say, 15-20 minute sessions a few times per day). Whatever that Savagegeese guy says...

Who knows what the max was...just noticed 250 when I paused, then 254 later on in the video. Down here in Gods country when its 98 degrees with 70% humidity, track day oil temps get...uncomfrotable...without an oil cooler.

I did quite a number of HPDE events throughout the year...no way I'm dumping my daily Nanodrive 0w-20 for a thicker oil just for a track day to compensate for high oil temps...that gets....expensive

Also too lazy to change pads when I get off track

My data shows oil temperature getting up to around 270F after a couple of laps and maintaining 272F plus/minus a couple of degrees after that. Those temperatures are not a big deal for any kind of decent synthetic oil.

I would bet that 30wt in the summer months is thinner than 0w20 in the winter for a significant percentage of your daily driving...

I usually change back to street wheels/tires and pads day after I get back, but currently still rolling on Nankang CR-1s with CSG C2 pads a good week and a half after Palmer...

Running an oil cooler would pay for itself quickly in not having to change oil every 2-3 events...

but anyway, 254F in a single lap of Monticello isn't acceptable IMO. Mishimoto's WRX cooler also looks like it will fit right on, but I'd rather have a better core so it would be awesome if they sold the sandwich plate separately.
