Toyota Australia aims for mid 2012 FT86 release

Not sure if a timeframe for the ppl down under has been officially mentioned so thought id post this. Nothing concrete, but maybe gives a better indication or confirmation to previous news.

http://www.toyota.pressroom.com.au/p...1000&kitID=301

One other point in the press release was "the availability of paddle shifts". Whilst this in itself was nothing new, it sounds to me as this may be a cost option. I was expecting paddle shifts as standard on the auto. This may just be the wording/my interpretation.

I have a feeling that the US will get 170-180hp version for Scion and Subaru base models.

It might so happen that the performance 'Celica' and Subaru STI variants would get the possible Yamaha heads and Dual AVCS making another possible 25hp while sacrificing mpg, although I really feel these should be standard on all models including the FR-S.

At 170-180hp this car would be out of my satisfaction range. If the performance version makes 200 even or more AND isn't priced very high then we will talk.

This is scion though which means there SHOULD be one trim level and one engine. So that one better be at least 200hp.

If they wanna release like an $18k 140hp car and a $20-22k performance variant then so be it. But if they wanna release the 140hp version for low twenties and then make you pay more for performance...well there are other cars I can buy.

Really? Even the new tC puts out 180hp/173tq. You think their new FT-86 "sports car" which they hope will revive their brand will have less or the same power as their FWD coupe that costs $6k less than the FT-86 is expected to start at?

I don't think it will come with 170~180hp ??

In here we have the 2011 NA impreza 2.0L (EJ204) with dohc, 10:1 cr, and avcs. It makes 160hp!

now add direct injection, and yamaha touch = +180hp

I just can't imagine them expecting it to be taken seriously with less than 200hp.

Yeah, more than likely.

My own guess is 200hp/150ft.lb, with horsepower peaking at 7000rpm, 2700lbs curb weight, base Scion at $22,750.

id see 150ftlb if the car was an inline4.. the newer flat-4 design has a bit of a different torque output characteristic. If we were expecting a larger output of 200hp out of the 2liter..we can probably expect the same range of TQ at 190-200hp.

The current FB20 makes 148hp/145ftlb @ 6000, and even if Subaru manages to shorten the stroke for the engine thats sits in the 86..just slightly to raise the RPM limit and lower the TQ band, the new narrow DOHC heads with D4-S and possibly an AVCS/VVTi will make up for it. FB25 makes 170hp/174ftlb

A conventional inline-4 with 150hp @6000rpm would typically produce 125-130ftlb....

I hope what your saying turns out to be true. If I can get atleast 170tq and 200hp I'll be one happy camper.
