Battery change memory savers, do I need it?

Hello,
I will be changing my battery this week. Before I have never bothered with memory saver in my cars. Just let it idle for few minutes after a change.


What do you guys do? Are you using memory saver devices?


If I do it quick does radio and ECU both loosing all settings?


Also if you use them I will have to isolate positive terminal so it does not touch body when battery removed, since there will be power in a system.
I am actually more worried to use them and frying something than resetting radio.

The ECU will need to relearn but all other settings will stay the same.
I wouldn't bother.

Well, them electrons travel at about 300 million meters per second, so you are gonna hafta be real quick.

BTW, I would be interested in a memory saving device, especially short term memory.

Use to use 8 aa batteries that plugged into the lighter plug.

it only works on cars, there's no hope for you!

the biggest reason to use such a device is so you don't loose your radio presets.

otherwise, i don't feel it's a bad idea to allow the car to re-learn how to work. in some ways, i view it as erasing some of the bad habits i tend to teach my cars!

in the winter months, my cars take up vaping to stay warm!

I only have one radio preset - the country western station, so no biggie.

My 2013 radio was unplugged for 3 years. When I plugged it back in, after my aftermarket unit died, it still remembered all settings. Was not expecting that!

Oh, wait up, that may be true for Tcoat's car radio -

The battery was out of the Lava for a whole day when I had to change it. All radio presets remained. The ECU took about 50 miles to relearn. Now of course there have been several different HUs used but there are not many that will lose data when unpowered. Odds are that they all have no power as soon as the key is turned off anyway.

When I changed my battery all my presets stayed. Then again it took less than 2 minutes to change it. Your mileage may very.

That's weird. I have a '13 with the low end Pioneer radio and every time I disconnect the battery I have to reset the radio presets and the shift light, shift alarm and gear indicator. And to do that I have to break out the manual to figure out how to reset everything. The cigarette lighter thing is a great idea. Next time I'll just connect a battery charger to the cigarette lighter hole.

I swapped it yesterday on FRS 2016.
Radio (stock FRS Pioneer unit) preset all preserved, BT, call contacts etc.
I let it idle for a few minutes, and I have not notice any issues when driving.


On my Legacy after battery was disconnected for few days it took like 10-15 minutes before it stopped stalling on a shift due idle dropping to much.


On FRS I only lost clock time, and custom setting for dash info (Rev light limit ...)
