Rear brake assembly smoking, making clacking noises. See video
After I drove home today and parked I discovered loud clacking/clicking noises coming from my rear. I don't know is this coming from the brake pad or my rotor?
Also there was smoke that smelled like burnt rubber coming out from there as well. And my center hub logo fell out somewhere too. My rear brake pads and rotors and tires are two years old and due for replacement. Not sure if they are 100% done yet, but does anyone what exactly happened here and is this the pad or rotor or both or what? here is a video of it |

Seized parking brake or calipers, too much heat build up, and the metal parts make clicking noises as they cool down?

yeah figured it could also be a caliper. bah. just my luck. the car still overall drives just fine though. but i guess ill gingerly drive it over next week for service. probably ill need a whole new caliper, pad, maybe rotor. damn. this happened to me two years ago as well. but that time i was braking too hard and then the caliper did something and broke along with the rotor.
the calipers i have are the stock subaru calipers. the brake pads i have are stop tech brake pads. the rotors i have on the rear are Hawk slotted and drilled rotors. (these are horrible, im never buying these again). My front rotors are Stop tech drilled rotors as well as stop tech pads. Should i just stick with the stop tech drilled rotors and stop tech pads then if i need to replace that as well? |

Yup, had that issue on my S2000 years ago, most likely a seized caliper. Did you keep up with brake fluid changes?

I had this issue reoccur on me as well, in my S2000.
To be honest, at the time I was broke and in college and wasn't keeping up with the brake fluiid changes so when the first one happened, I was not surprised. But within a year or so after replacing the caliper with a refurb, and flushing fluid, the same thing happened again where it seized and caused wheel heat. Are you buying new calipers or refurbs? I am wondering if the refurb process is flawed because I was surprised for it to happen again after putting in fresh fluid. |

Does pulling it up and releasing it feel right?
Was it completely released when you were driving? The E brake is a drum so you can't see if it is stuck on. Is the rotor discoloured at all?
