4th Gear Crunch at high RPM (not grind)
Hey guys, I've been reading a lot of threads about 4th gear grind at high rpms and people getting their transmissions replaced.
I'm guessing by grind people are talking about this: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6EUWndrqWU[/ame] My car (2017 86) has a bit of a notchy "crunch" feeling and sound but not a grind as the video above has. I still have a few months of warranty remaining so i'm not sure if it's worth taking it in for that. Is it something where my crunch will turn into a grind soon enough? |

Hmm, not synchro by chance, if it's only when engaging, not while driving in gear? Still, if you have warranty, i'd use it while car still in it.

It's just when engaging 4th gear at higher RPMs. Starting around 4,000rpm or so and getting worse the higher up it gets. But much more like a crunch than an actual grind like in the video above.
I may still take it in and let the dealer tech have a look. |

What did you end up doing? My bought it used and no warranty so trying to see what I could do without rebuilding the thing.

OP was last online a year and a half ago... I doubt you're getting an answer here.

I'd try a different fluid. I had a crunch going into 3rd so I just changed it it for Redline and got better shifting at redline. What came out of the trans didn't fill me with confidence in terms of the transmission's life if owned by a 'sporting' driver, I was glad to get it out of there.
