Rear bumper & fascia - help
Got rear-ended today. It was gentle enough not to leave any scratch marks. Seriously, the cop & I looked all over, but couldn't find any scratches, or cracks or dents or dings (lucky?). He thought I was making it up until I showed the video.
The other car fled the scene. My question is, I want to see if there is any damage to anything. Looks like the bumper (image) took the impact. I plan to take the fascia off and inspect.
Seriously ticked me off when the other driver pretended to stop, and then fled. My dashcam captured the license plate # |

If your bumper isnt damaged (ripped, craked, in several pieces), nothing behind it will. The bumper is the weakest link in all of that. Alternatively, if something is slightly bent, that you cant see at the naked eye, once you take it off, you might have trouble putting it back on, requiring some elbow grease or a new part. I would say just leave it be and enjoy the car. Where do I get this info from? Basically by "testing" the durability of track barriers, or commonly known as going off and hitting barriers :P

I was rear ended a few months after I bought my FR-S new. No scratches and I told the lady not to worry about it. When I was at the dealer for an oil change a few weeks later, I used two fingers to push in on my bumper and then did the same thing on the bumper of a brand new one on the lot. Mine pushed in a little farter. Meh. That was 150,000 miles ago and it's fine.

For now I'm holding off on making an insurance claim. I might just move on and ignore it altogether.
I am fully covered for comprehensive and collision, so my rates won't go up either (except $1000 deductible). Given that the other car drove away into a ghetto, I assume they don't have insurance at all. Faeces happens! But really frustrating that it happened to *my* baby, instead of wife's Ford!
