One fairly major and one minorish issue....
I had a small break from the road last week and the opportunity to take are FRS to the track presented itself. Obviously, I went!
I'll start this off by saying that overall I am blown away by the car. Those that are on the fence about the auto trans, need not be worried that it will not be any fun on a race track. It is serious fun! Infinitely predictable and easy to exploit the transmission for EVIL levels of fun. Here are the two issues I cam across. I'll start small. The stock brake fluid is in no way shape or form up to the task of a track day if you are planning on pushing the car at all. It got hot, the pedal got mushy (Still had no trouble slowing the car, but mushy pedal is a bit frightening at times.). I say that to say this. Grab yourself some decent brake fluid before.hitting the track. You will be safer for it and its not billions of dollars. Issue number two is Auto Trans specific and a tad hair raising at speed. About halfway through my second 20 minute session I was at the top of 3rd gear about 20 meters from my braking point when the trans decided it wanted to SHIFT ITSELF into fourth. Yes I was in VSC mode with Traction Control full off. I was under the impression this car held ALL gears to redline and stayed in gear in that mode. Having the car suddenly free itself up like this at this particular area of any track is scary at the least and seriously dangerous as a worst cade scenario. If anyone out there has any info regarding the auto trans and this issue, please let me know. I will be researching this and will post my findings. Thanks in advance for any help or explanations given. Sean |

Were you in M or D-Sport ? I haven't had any issues keeping it near the redline in M, but I have not tracked it.

I was thinking it may have been a heat issue as well. Definitely had the car in full manual mode. Sometimes it self shifted sometimes it didnt. It was always 3rd to 4th that had the issue.
It's so much fun lifting at 91-92 mph in a braking zone thinking you will have some engine braking and then having the car go completely free into the next gear. Heart, meet throat! Lol. |
