Engine failure
Has anyone else experienced this? My car is 6 years old, 160,000 km, well-maintained, and just had a bearing failure. It's catastrophic and they're quoting me $8,000 to replace the engine. At this point, it's not worth replacing it and so the car is basically scrap.
I've seen some videos on YouTube with the same condition and the same result I was just curious to know how prevalent this is with these cars. Mike Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk |

Just swap a used engine from a wrecked brz.
What bearing failed? What were you doing when it failed? What were the environmental conditions when it failed? Oil starvation is not uncommon, but would likely not occur in a well-maintained, street-driven car, so can you indulge more?

Sounds like you spun a rod bearing. Plenty of us have, while plenty of us have not. Personally I'm on motor #3, I've blown a 13 (even more common) and a 16 with a Jackson dual rad and e85 keeping things cool. The rod bearings suck.
Because of the RTV everywhere these are horrible to rebuild. Prices were decent for engines before (low 2ks) and we've seen just as many built engines pop that it was common to just replace. Prices are now much more, perhaps demand is better understood by vendors or it has ramped up as more pop. |

Thanks for the info.
I'm half considering taking the car back as is and doing some other kind of engine swap. I just think it might be a bigger pain in the ass than it's worth. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk |

If I had to do it all again I would LS/2J swap right out of the gates.

$8k? That a hell of a lot money. You can always take it to any mechanic shop for a lot less.
These engines are super easy to remove. As others said you can find a used one for cheap. Or if you are mechanically inclined do the labor yourself and have a shop rebuild the engine.
