Serpentine belt issue / So Cal LAX Airport

I noticed that although the serpentine belt is still moving, one of the rolls sometimes spins and sometimes does not. It is also making some noise. I'm thinking I may need to get the belt tension adjusted. Thoughts?

Also, any recommendations for a mechanic by LAX airport?

Welcome to our forum -

Which "roller" is not turning?

If it's the one attached to the AC compressor, it will only "look" like it's turning when the compressor clutch engages it.

The belt tension is automatically adjusted by the belt tensioner pulley (if it's working right).

What I think you are referring to is the pulley for the A/C compressor.

The pulley goes around any time the engine is running, however, the "clutch" just locks up when the compressor is told to run.

Sometimes the belt will squeak at that point, especially when the compressor just comes on.

I suggest you start the car, turn OFF the A/C, look at that unit, see if the "clutch" (the inner part of the pulley) is turning - it should NOT be.

Now turn on the A/C on high and look at the pulley, the inner part (the clutch) should be turning.

Come back.

I think you might actually be referring to the ac clutch which only engages when the A/C or defroster is on, on almost all cars, otherwise if you look past it you'll notice that it's out pulley is still spinning. Once you "call" for a/c the electromagnetic clutch is power and it grabs that inner pulling and it should spin

There is nothing broken to fix, however the noise could be a squeaky belt. A new belt will fix that.

I understood his post to mean the pulley is making some noise when it "stops," not that the belt was squealing. The compressor does make noises when the clutch engages and disengages. So there's still no evidence at all at this point that the belt needs to be replaced, tightened or messed with at all.

Belts not squeaking as we know of, either a pulley or tensioner or the compressor drive itself is what seems to be squeaking right now
