How to format USB drives larger than 32GB with FAT32 on Windows

This has been mentioned in other threads but I thought I would expand on it a bit. Many of you are streaming music using Bluetooth to your HU. I still have a large collection of audio CDs that I have ripped to MP3 files and transferred them to a flash drive.
I have a 2014 PT546-00140 HU unit. Its manual and the manual for the 2015 PT296-00140 HU state that:
• USB memory that can be used for MP3 and WMA playback.
• USB communication formats: USB 2.0 HS (480 Mps) and FS (12 Mbps)
• File formats: FAT 16/32 (Windows®)

My HU will not recognize lossless flac files. It will recognize USB 3.0 FAT32 flash drives up to 32GB. Flash drives larger than 32GB only give you the choice to format them to exFAT or NTFS.

I found that the best way to format large flash drives to FAT32 is the gui version. It’s a small exe file and it’s fast.

I have a Sandisk 256GB USB 3.0 flash drive that I formatted to FAT32 and it works fine in my HU.

There are many free CD ripping programs out there and everyone has their favorite. I have been using CDex. It’s updated frequently (last update 9-10-18), easy to use, fast, and has built in encoders.
